Well it is only fair, I mean after the first 4 spots (Ronaldo, Torres, Fabregas and Adebayor) had been taken up there was the mandatory 'not from a big club' choice that went to David James.
Of course Gerrard was nominated in mid-August, as he will be again this August - it's onl fair on him to be nominated every year, whether deserving or not.

What I don't get is how rio didn't get nominated. Rio has been United's most important player this season, but now he's being passed over for the likes of Adebayor and Fabregas? It makes a mockery of the whole nomination process.
Also, how the f*ck can Richards be nominated for Young Player when he's been injured since February? Now, that's taking the piss.

Thats easy! Because he is a center back! You have some nerve lad! implying that a center back actually has an important role in the team!
Only attacking players/goal scorers should be praised for their efforts! Everyone else just does not matter!
(just trying to look at from the media/journalists pont of view...)

Goalkeepers, defenders and defensive midfielders just dont get any credit when it comes to awards...except for the odd occasion that they add players like D.James to make it seem like they think about their nominations.
Ferdinand, Mascherano and Flamini are certainly deserving of at least a nomination.

Torres and Ronaldo to split it.

Torres and Ronaldo to split it.
I assume you mean Torres for YPotY and Ronaldo for PotY, yes? There is no split happening in the main award, Ronaldo is the biggest runaway winner since the year Henry got robbed of European PotY. Sorry ,but even with wishful thinking there is no split here. ;)

If Ronaldo wins POTY then surely he automatically wins YPOTY

That would be the logical step, wouldn't it?
If he's the best player in the country then he's the best in every category he's eligable for, which includes YPOTY. And I don't think there's any doubt about it, he is the best player in the country.
I think he'll acheive a clean sweep again possibly. PFA player, fans player, Football Writers player etc. Hopefully he'll include the Ballon d'Or and World Player to his list as well later on this year. God knows he has a strong claim to it, but he probably won't win those because he won't move to Spain and only players in Spain and Italy are allowed to win those awards.
Rio Ferdinand deserves to be in there. He has been in the form of his life this season and, for me personally, as cemented his place as one of the best defenders on the planet. None of this Thuram, Cannavaro or Puyol rubbish. Rio is streets ahead of them all at the moment. A rock at the back....

If he had to pick regardless of who's been nominated.
My top 5 for POTY would be.
1. Ronaldo
2. Rio
3. Torres
4. Adebayor
5. Mascherano
My top 5 for YPOTY.
1. Ronaldo
2. Torres
3. Adebayor
4. Mascherano
5. Young

That's what I would think as well, but for some reason I just have a feeling he may get the big one and with the young award going to somebody else. Not sure why though, just a hunch.

I think if someone is such an obvious choice for POTY that the people who vote might be more inclined to pick someone else for YPOTY. If it's borderline, you don't want the player to go home empty handed so you pick him in both categories. I think that's happened before hasn't it?

I'be got a feeling that Tofrres is going to scoop the YPOTY award because it's his first season.
You wouldn't begrduge it him. Apart from the fact there's a better player 18 months his junior who has done more this season in just about everything.
If Liverpool win the CL, expect him to win the lot......

The premier league awards get given out before the CL final.

as much as i cant stand ronaldo he has put together an incredible season, especially considering he plays on a loaded squad with at least 4 others that can be scoring at will along side him
anyone know who the last player to win PotY that wasn't a big scorer? particularly a defender/gk?
