My spanish is lacking but it seems Real Madrid might invest in a Miami team.....there has been a big push lately in the press that there are motions to bring MLS back.

Two reactions:

1) Interesting if true.

2) A story too good to fact-check.

Yup, it's only a matter of time before we get a team again.

But Real Miami? Hmmm... as long as we have a team again it's all good!

Estimated annual revenue each year

From 2004 to 2010 they estimate 15 to 25 millions dollars a year.

General Activities

Videos, Advertising campaigns, seminars, schools and a biannual Tour.

Merchandising

They want to work with MLS to sell products all over the USA (Shirts, gear, etc)

Television

400 million spectators will watch Real Madrid games in 2010

MLS Team

Retiring Real Madrid stars would play their final years with Real Miami.

Real Miami... brilliant, I wish it was sooner
Experienced world class players, playing on the same team
with young American talent… world class coaches
Real scouts, bringing new potential
talent out of central and south America.. this is a brilliant
business plan. Outside merchandising, and TV…
the buying, and
selling of the potential talent, would bring tones of revenue.

Are there any links in English to this?

I heard somewhere that they may set up in Miami in 2010. But, if that is accurate, then it would be an absolute disaster! For it would mean that no-one else would even think of setting up here, and we'd have a minimum seven year wait for a team. I don't know about you guys, but I don't want to wait that long.

wow, quite a bump, but here's a tid-bit about RM and MLS. So.Flo?

You may have to register. Either way, here's the info about RM...
And then there are the Europeans, and in particular, Real Madrid.

Garber said MLS has been in "discussions with Real Madrid" over how the Spanish club can build its own brand in the U.S. while at the same time helping the sport flourish here, possibly by following Vergara's lead and investing in a team.

Garber and Gazidis returned from Madrid last week after meeting with Real officials to explore the possibility of Real's providing the opposition in the July 24 MLS All-Star game, just as Vergara's Chivas de Guadalajara did last year.

Here is the translation from Bablefish

IN THE U.S.A. THEY WANT A REAL MIAMI

Madrid handles a plan of six years to enter the American market with the Maxima operation of the sport and social assets of the club

THE GALACTIC ONES HAVE PULL IN THE U.S.A.. The experience of Asia has been the first passage of the expansion of Real Madrid.

IT INTERESTS TO YOU?

PEDRO P. SAN MARTÍN

The project really impressive and is very detailed. AS can keep awake with detail the plan that an American company has put on the table of Florentino Perez to disembark progressively in the United States during six years (2004-10). Under the title ' the Border final', dossier evaluates the income that the club could reach through tours of the first equipment, conferences, television rights, merchandising, tremendously novel short courses, publicity and other aspects, which they would culminate in 2010 with the Real tax exemption Miami, registered in Major League Soccer (MLS). An equipment in which those soccer players of Madrid would play with impressive contracts which they retired in the white club.

The project of the ' Final' Border is amplest. It goes beyond a simple tour of biennial summer (first of them next August 2004). It anticipates a development strategy that would report 25 million annual euros (5,000 million pesetas). It involves to all the sport and social assets of the club: inferior players, trainers, categories, sponsors, merchandisings and Real Madrid Television.

And he counts like departure point to achieve the success with the increase of the interest by soccer in the United States: there are 19 million cards, of them 15 million young people of 18 or less years, he says the report. In addition, the association of soccer trainers counts on 15,000 members, expectant to learn of the professionals of Real Madrid. And like colofón, the opening of the MLS to welcome any initiative of Real Madrid, or in competition with the Real branch Miami, or opening its chain from stores to official products of the club.

The Hispanic community, about 40 million citizens, according to the report, would find in the Real Miami to its equipment of reference, with well remunerated veterans of Madrid, and causing a great televising pull and possibilities of highest income.

I hear pigs flying and grunting to each other in Spanish.

It's better then what we have now!

Viva Real Madrid!

If we can't get our own to invest in a great market we may as well let the foreigners take advantage of what is there!

You've got to be kidding! 7 years is not that long; that is 7 years of build up.
They will start playing matches here way before that, even though it may not be in the league.. Great opportunity to build support and guess what? There will be no excuse for not being able to build it.

Kudos to Real! We need their support!

Would Real require a new stadium to be built?

Mike T

How will this work.

Will Real Miami essentially be a glorified reserve team for Real Madirid or a chance for Madrid to make so extra cash for overpaid ole stogies that are sitting on the bench in the Spanish League play.

I wander how this is going to work out. I don't want to be too much of a skeptic, but if its going to be anything like that I rather wait for a REAL Miami to team and not Real Miami/Real Madrid farm club crap.
