The thread title says it all. Is he the best ever? If not, who was better?

He's only had one good season.. Xabi Alonso is better as is Pepe Reina, and so was Fernando Hierro.

I think calling his season "good" is a laughable understatement. How many foreign imports, or any player for that matter, score 30+ (all comps.) in their first year in the EPL and are battling for league MVP?

Umm, no. He hasn't even played a full season yet. Not taking anything away from him, but to say the best ever is a little premature.

League MVP... don't just go round making up titles thanks. He has been Liverpools only Striker capable of scoring a goal, so he gets all the goals, just like Anelka did at Bolton. He's not going to win Player of the year either, he's had a good season but he's not the best ever.

I'd put Fabregas well ahead of Torres in his time in England. Fabregas has been here from the age of 17 and been outstanding ever since.
Torrees has had a fine 9 months here but I wouldn't go as far as to say he's thre best ever from Spain. Alonso has been a fine player and so has Campo at Bolton........

fabregas and torres are totaly diff players
torres has been excellent, but can he continue this form?
cesc has been the key player of arsenals midfield for a while now and hes only 20

if, and i mean this entirely hypothetically, if torres were to leave the epl at the end of this season, and we were looking back several years hence, it would be fair to say that this has been the best season, by a huge margin, that any spanish player has displayed in the prem.
i would still put fabregas as the spanish player who has had the biggest impact and also as present incumbent of best spanish player in england, but torres first season has been incredible, and im sure if he stays he will be the leagues most lethal striker for some time to come.

How can you say this has been the best season for a Spanish player? Is this because you are just judging it on goals? Because Fabregas is the whole reason Arsenal are successful. And they are more successful than Liverpool when comparing the Spanish influences.
Take Gerrard out that Liverpool team and Torres won't have scored half his goals, yes he has made quite a few himself, but the majority were made by Gerrard. He's still been the second best player this season.

Always a ridiculous argument. Where's Arsenal without Adebayor and I think you could make the case that Hleb is just as important in that midfield. So yes, Gerrard is obviously an important part to Liverpool's and Torres' success but Cesc isn't caring Arsenal alone. That said Torres has shown he is the trump card for Liverpool this season. A couple of his goals have single handedly kept them in the CL, and I agree with a prior post who said he's not the best ever but he's definitely in the discussion of who's had the best season.

The point I was actually trying to make was that Arsenals entire play centres around Fabregas, he is the one that holds that team together and obviously he is aided by Flamini, and in Hleb has someone to attach the Midfield to the Attack. But if you take Fabregas out of there, they have no one else capable of doing such a role. Don't act like im discarding all the other players.

The two points you made in your previous post was that "Fabregas is the whole reason Arsenal are successful," then went on to prove that Torres is aided by the services of Gerrard thus inferior. That was the argument that I was reacting to. And that is a ridiculous argument. If you were trying to say something else then my post holds no validity.

It does look like I implied that, but I didn't. Torres has been a better player for Liverpool this season. But in terms of contribution they are hard to seperate.
