I just came across this incredible documentary on the 98 team; problem is, I don't speak French. Can anyone give me advice on finding subtitles online or ordering for a NTSC dvd player?

Thanks

I don't know about subtitles (maybe just try searching it on google?), but I guess after we've watched it, people here will help if you want parts translated

Buy the DVD. Absolutely worth viewing, especially for all the behind the scenes footage.

I'm not sure that it's still available from amazon.fr, but the DVD has an English subtitles option on it.

It will be a PAL Region 2 disc, but this should play on a decently equipped PC or laptop.

Hey everyone,

I am new to the forums and wanted to give this thread a bump. I just found out about this and DESPERATELY want to find a copy of it to buy. Does anyone know how I can find this? And was it confirmed that the DVD does in fact have English subtitles? Anything to do with these years of the French national team has me extremely interested. Thanks!

Casey Y,

I can confirm that the excellent Les Yeux dans les Bleus DVD does indeed come with optional English subtitles.

It was originally released in 1999 and re-released in 2002 with a new stereo soundtrack (and some minor musical soundtrack alterations) as part of a twin pack with its sequel, Les Yeux dans les Bleus II (which sadly was not subtitled).

The bad news is that it is now out of print and sells for ridiculous sums on eBay and other French auction sites. It's up on various BitTorrent sites, but alas unsubtitled. Maybe it will be re-released again for World Cup 2010?

Thank you very much for the info! While I am pleased that the subtitles do exist, I was afraid of what the answer might be in locating one. I guess I will just sit back and wait for one to pop up on Ebay and try to go after that one. Do you know roughly what they go for? $30 USD, $50, more? And other than Ebay and possibly Amazon, any other sites I should check? Thanks again!

Yikes!

Well thank you again for the help in all of this, I at least have a direction as to where I can go in my search and what to look for. Thanks!

Still expensive : http://www.priceminister.com/nav/Video/kw/yeux+dans+les+bleus

They really need to make a new release, Dom&co have f**ked up so much recently that they did not even think about that in 2008...Crazy !

why did it go out of print if there is still so much demand for this DVD?

Canal Plus might be waiting for a WC 2010 edition.

Is this the correct version and everything for sale? I can't read French, should I buy or not? Thanks!

This would appear to be the 3 disc box set of Les Yeux dans les Bleus, Les Yeux dans les Bleus 2 and a bonus disc of of the French team's pre World Cup 98 traing camp in Tignes. Originally released in 2002 to coincide with the Korea Japan world Cup. As mentioned previously, this version of Les Yeux dans les Bleus differs from the original 1999 version with a stereo sountrack and some changes to the music used.

Whether to bid for it or not is entirely your call. All I'll say is that only the first Les Yeux dans les Bleus disc has English subtitles.
