Hotels in LA area for WCQ on June 15

To LARS and Galaxians, etc.:

I am looking for a short list of hotels/motels in the LA area in an effort to plan the trip for a group for the USMNT WCQ against Barbados. Something like this that appears in The Inferno's (FCD) forum would be perfect:

I hope to keep it in the Santa Monica (for the Main St. pub crawl potential) area, the Manhattan/Hermosa area (Underground), or the Huntington/Newport area (Harp). Anything from $40 Days Inn to $150 Marriott is fine; any decent local hotel that's not part of a known chain is fine, too.

I am plugged into AO and SA and am using those resources and experienced soccer travelers but no one knows better than the locals. Don't let the Chivas supporters outdo y'all.

You can sort it by 3 areas. Walk to the Beach is self-explanatory and if you want to travel down to Newport, just go down PCH. You might get a place nearby Main Street, the downtown area with bars & shops. Hotels by the beach are several miles from the closest freeway (405) though.

Sam's Army Columbus Brigade is making the trip (5-6 of us), and staying in Long Beach just south of Carson and the HDC at the Marriott Renaissance Long Beach (http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/lgbrn-renaissance-long-beach-hotel/). We hear there's a decent bar scene downtown LB as well, and figured it would pay off to be close to the stadium on game day.
