Now, I don't speak spanish and the Atlavista translator is for crap, but is this saying that with tax exemption in 2010 Real Madrid wants to have a team in Miami with Madrid players or something?

this sounds like a bunch of crap. someone who speaks spanish please help us out.

Real Madrid would send their old players to the Miami franchise by the end of their career to retire. :)

funny... this just confirms how MLS really is a retirement league.

Given that the MLS is not tops in the world in revenue to pay the best players top money....what do you expect? :D

Real Madrid and MLS are analyzing a strategic plan of in 6 years developing a franchise in Miami. The players would be of the Madrid club in the eve of the retirement. The project, to know is an exclusive right of the sport Spanish Ace. (??) It is really impressive and very detailed.

Hmmm....perhaps a ploy by Real Madrid to attract players to their team so that they can retire in Miami....

ZZ retires from Real in 2 years. I'd be more than happy to see him play for an MLS team :)

In essence in the near future they'll initially implement a business plan that begins with a US TOUR . Once they analyze how much Real Madrid recognition (game attendance, press exposure, kid camps and merchandise sales) is worth during that US TOUR/S then in 2010 they'll start a franchise sending all their arthritis-ridden players. I think in 6 years any aging player who is expecting to take it smooth in Miami will in for a monster surprise. As it is now...... well you've been seeing the results these last 2 seasons.

This is old news and was reported in the Spanish sports rag AS last week. After Reals triumphant tour in Asia this past summer Real President Florentino Perez wants to conquer that last soccer frontier with much dinero the USA, much like Merchandise United did this summer. According to their long range plans (surprising because many clubs in Spain don;t think past the end of the season) they want to get a foot hold here in the States with the goal of getting a Real Madrid B or C team franchise here in the states by 2010 and call it Real Miami. That way they can play in the MLS bring over Spaniards and sign Yanks to the team and if they are good enough get them to play on Real Madrid B or loan them out to other teams in Spain so that someday these guys can play on their A team. Obviously Perez is not aware of all that MLS represents in terms of salary caps, foreigners and player allocations and concessions, but hey he's got 6 years to negotiate and who knows by then the MLS will be desperate to get an owner who has no problems dropping a couple of Mil on a team.

So look for Real Madrid to be playing some MLS teams next summer all the while trying to peddle Real Madrid Raul, Zidane, Ronaldo and Beckham jerseys!

Saludos y viva er beti manque lopera!

Flash- One can make the numbers work (or close) on an SSS in Miami with or without Real Madrid (I bet)...simply because you can play 20-25 exhibitions a year (only a few in US can do this), and get 25k per exhibition.....I'm not talking about paying Man. United type fees either....I doubt getting Jamaica to play is as expensive as Man. U.

The fact that Real Madrid sees other benefits just makes it a better deal...of course, I am assuming that Miami local gvt. would be very generous (free land or close, mucho tax breaks) for a site, but they have been in proposed deals for Marlins, and current mayor is pro soccer (has talked about getting MLS back)..

An SSSer with an open view to Miami River and downtown (you ain't going to get a waterfront parcel for free) would be a beautiful thing...it would be rocking for int'l matches

Except, of course, that it is nothing of the sort. MLS, as anyone who watches the league knows, is a young players' league. And increasigly so, actually.

It's only a matter of time before we get another team...

Main points of "The Last Frontier"

Estimated annual revenue each year

From 2004 to 2010 they estimate 15 to 25 millions dollars a year.

General Activities

Videos, Advertising campaigns, seminars, schools and a biannual Tour.

Merchandising

They want to work with MLS to sell products all over the USA (Shirts, gear, etc)

Television

400 million spectators will watch Real Madrid games in 2010

MLS Team

Retiring Real Madrid stars would play their final years with Real Miami

I am surprised it has taken this long. Can you imagine Real Madrid sending over a team of 6 coaches and having tryouts two years from now, for the U-19 through U-14 youth teams, and announcing in advance that within 4 years they will be fielding a team in MLS?

Since Miami might actually be the soccer snob (if it's MLS it sucks) capital, this might actually be what finally works in Miami.

Experienced world class players, playing on the same team
with young American talent… world class coaches
Real scouts bringing new potential
talent out of central and south America.. this is a brilliant
business plan. Outside merchandising, and TV…
the buying, and
selling of the potential talent, would bring tones of revenue.

haha yeah death comes easy in miami i guess. but on a real note this is a retarded idea. if real madrid invests and trains players good for them...they have a better training structure than anything we have here. but old foggies coming to play first of all is an insult no matter who it is and second of all they will get spanked ill lay money down on that. 40 year olds trying to keep up with 19 year olds no matter how shi**y the 19 year old is (plays in mls whatever u want to say) the 40 year old is toast. peace real.
