Montreal Expansion Thread - Name, Colors, Logo/Kit Design

This thread is being created for Monteal fans and contributors. In lieu of them having their own forum, which they are working on meeting the requirements to attain, the mods are creating threads for them that will be moderated like it was in their city forum.

Gentlemen and Ladies, good luck. Let's see some creative designs and names.

Not much of a designer so I'll just give my opinion on the name.
"Olympique Montréal" It had already been suggested by others and its my personal favorite. Sounds classy, european and original(for MLS).

I don't understand why there would be a new kit/logo/name for Montreal when they come up to MLS. The group making the bid owns the impact, Impact is whats written on the seats at the stadium where Montreal will play when they get to MLS. This seems very similar to Seattle, Impact is the way it will be.

I have several issues with the name "Impact".

First off, it sounds like we're trying really hard to catch people's attention.
Synonyms: crash, collision, shock, bang, blow

Second, since we're from montreal and we are one of the few French speaking cities in North America. I would prefer taking advantage of that and using a name that only we can get away with.


But hey, as long as we get a team, we can name them the Montreal Poutines for all I care.

perhaps the name could stay, as we've seen transpire in the pacific northwest. but using seattle as an example doesn't lend credence to keeping the logo and/or kit.

Keeping the impact name/jersey would be a good idea IMO.
Otherwise I like Olympique de Montreal. Montreal FC could do the job aswell.

As for color we could always go for bleu-blanc-rouge like with the habs but white and blue alone (like the current impact) is good. But yeah, we need blue or red. No green, yellow, purple or orange, please.

That's a nice logo. If they do change the name it should be changed to Olympique de Montreal. But that is if they change it.

The current setup is great. The name takes some getting used to, but it soon becomes second nature.

If Toronto is red, then Montreal needs to be blue/white. I would go for a more distinct matching pattern though, like same-colour shirts and shorts, with different colour socks (ie like Chelsea home, and flipped for away).

In bleu-blanc-rouge but mostly bleu jerseys, with an héraldique crest based on the city's armoiries and drapeau...

I'd love to see it be Olympique de Montreal. It seems perfect. It relates to the city, and it meets MLS's desire for European sounding names (and it doesnt sound stupid like some of the others...).
However, I'm pretty sure theres some extremely tight trademark issues regarding 'Olympic' or any version of it. I believe only teams created before a certain date are allowed to use the name.

I had posted this about a year ago. It would need some tweaking but see this as a concept. Of course, this isnt worth anything if "Olympic" is really an IOC trademark enforced in every country in the world...

The kit is beautiful

The logo, though, just wouldn't be approved today. It's not "tv" enough. You need to have the word mark MUCH more present.

That is a very nice kit. Haven't really seen one like it. But I'm also an 1860 supporter, so it's a nice palette.
