I was just reading the list of 125 most attended “football”(it includes all kinds of football) leagues and there was the Celtic Rugby union league. I didn’t know that something like that existed. When was it started and has it been successful? I think it’s great that rugby has broken the rigid link between nations and sports leagues. I think this will have to happen in football as well in the future to correct the unbalance of all top players playing in four countries. But it seems that football fans, clubs and associations value the tradition of national leagues higher than a fair chance of success in Europe.

It has been going a couple of years. It has coincided with my leaving Wales and the english press devotes little attention to it, so it has been difficult to keep track of. Whether it has been a success is questionable but it has led to a radical overhaul of the entire structure of rugby in wales
