Preston North End 3 - West Bromwich Albion 0
Deepdale was the scene of what likely the worst performance of the season for our so-called promotion battlers. Albion created few worthy chances while PNE romped.
And not much more need be said.

West Bromwich Albion 2 Cardiff City 1
Goals from Neil Clement and Lee Hughes sandwich Alan Lee's equaliser to give The Baggies all three points at The Hawthorns.

Thanks for the brief summary, John Boy... I couldn't force myself out of bed at 4 a.m. Pacific time for the noon kick-off. :(
But I'm still happy about the three points. Five points behind Norwich and four ahead of Wigan is not a bad place to be at the moment.

Just posting to keep this board active... it's been quiet in here lately. It's hard to believe that a team sitting in a promotion spot has gone through as much misery as Albion have. Between all of the injuries, acrimony from former strikers (Roberts and now Dichio), current strikers getting arrested... it feels as if it has been a very depressing season and yet the Baggies are second top.
A crucial part of the season coming up, obviously, with Neil W**ker's Blades Saturday and then Norwich less than a fortnight afterward.

Sheffield United 1 - West Bromwich Albion 2
A crucial three points all taken in the Baggies' first match at Bramall Lane in two years.
Thomas Gaardsoe's late strike earned the three points for the Albion. Darren Moore's header had leveled the match earlier.
Albion stayed ahead of Wigan and gained two points on league leaders Norwich, who drew 1-1 at West Ham this afternoon.

West Bromwich Albion 0 - Rotherham United 1
A few days before a crucial top of the table match at Carrow Road, Albion lay a rotten egg. A miserable match at the Hawthorns was punctuated by a late goal for the Millers.

Norwich City 0 - West Bromwich Albion 0
Sorry this is late... couldn't listen to the match.
No goals in this top-of-the-table clash at Carrow Road means the Canaries remain three points ahead of Albion.
Appeals for a 30th minute West Brom pen after a apparent hand-ball in the box by Norwich's Craig Fleming went unheeded by the ref.

West Bromwich Albion 3 - Coventry City 0
In one of the more comprehensive wins of the season, the Baggies thrashed the Sky Blues in this Midlands derby. Horsfield, Hulse and Kinsella each tallied for Albion.
The Baggies now are even on points with Norwich City at the top of the division, pending the results of tomorrow's East Anglia derby. Albion will likely remain in second unless the Tractor Boys deal the Canaries a 5-0 thrashing. (Here's hoping! :D )
With Wigan's loss to Crewe this afternoon, Albion stretched their lead over the third-placed Latics to seven points in the table.

Crewe Alexandra 1 - West Bromwich Albion 2
Two late Albion goals by Andy Johnson and Lee Hughes gave West Brom a much needed win this evening at Gresty Road.
Action but no goals in the first half, but Albion came alive when Hughesie entered the game in place of Crewe old boy Rob Hulse in the second half.
With Norwich City losing to Cardiff this afternoon, the Baggies are now level on points with the Canaries, with only goal difference separating the two clubs at the top of the table. More importantly, nine points now separate Albion from Wigan in third place. :D :D

We need a big morale-boosting win over Wigan on Tuesday. We still need more points between Us and Them! Hell, let's take the Div One title while we're at it! Beat Wigan!!

West Bromwich Albion 2 - Wigan Athletic 1
In one of the most heart-wrenching and important matches of the season, the Baggies not only kept pace with Norwich but widened the gap between the Albion and the pack of clubs in play-off positions.
After falling behind mid-way through the second half thanks to a Latics penalty, Albion responded by earning a penalty of their own only a few minutes later, which saw Wigan keeper Josh Filan sent off. Lee Hughes, who had drawn the pen, slotted it away for the equaliser.
With seconds left before injury time, Gaardsoe converted a header from Hughes for the winner.
Norwich's win keeps them top only on goal difference. Wigan's loss and Sheffield United's draw away at Rotherham sees the Blades move into the third spot, currently 19 points behind Albion. :D

A win against the dirtiest team of the season, and by far the most bitter fans, well, ever. How they managed to have 10 men at the end is a mystery.
It's 11points (uh err) that we are infront of the Colin's crew though.

Listened to the game on Match Live today. What a thrilling finish! I smacked the back of fist on the ceiling boinging around the house...The need to widen the gap between 2nd and 3rd even more. Still great to come away with the win today!

DOH! I was never that good at maths.
I would have loved to have seen the look on Jason Roberts' face tonight after Gaardsoe's goal. He must have been at the ground, one would think...

Of course, if we can better whatever Norwich do, we should win the title.

Well if our visit to Stoke has been delayed for a month and a half, that might be a good thing.
The priority for the Baggies should be to put distance between ourselves and the teams behind us. If Albion can hold the gap between us and whoever is in third place at 7-10 points or more after the next four or five matches, I am virtually certain we will not "do a Wolves" and go up in one of the automatic places.
Now is not the time to become complacent. We may be top with regard to points, but we are also only 11 points ahead of Millwall in seventh. One bad spell - certainly possible with the likes of Palace, Ipswich away, Millwall away and Sunderland away looming on the fixture list - could spell disaster.

West Bromwich Albion 2 - Crystal Palace 0
Albion earned another key three points this afternoon against Palace.
Each side held the other scoreless for most of the match, but Darren Moore broke open the scoring on 80 minutes on a powerful header off an Albion corner. Minutes later, Delroy Facey sealed the match for the Baggies with his first goal.
Norwich's 1-0 win at Stoke means the Canaries are still top, but Albion have narrowed the goal difference gap to four.

Sorry... it was Lloyd Dyer who had the second goal for Albion Saturday. I was going off the commentary, and they had said it was Facey. :o

Ipswich Town 2 - West Bromwich Albion 3
Geoff Horsfield's goal deep in stoppage time snatch all three points for Albion as the Baggies kept pace with Town's East Anglia rivals.
The Tractor Boys had a 1-0 lead at half time, but Jason Koumas and Lloyd Dyer hit two in succession to snatch the lead. Darren Bent's equaliser appeared to give Ipswich a share of the spoils, until Horsfield sent the traveling Albion fans home on a high note.
(Sorry this is late. I went to church right after the match and had been out and about most of the day...)
