Carlton Cole on Loan from Chelsea

Wow! Where did this come from. Carlton Cole on a season's loan from Chelsea. He is quite a talent and he's got size.

I brought up in another thread that when they signed Di Canio what would happen with all the strikers they had already. Now we've got another? Maybe Curbs is considering playing 3-3-4. ;)

Euell should still see some playing time, but if I'm Kevin Lisbie or Shaun Bartlett, I'm expecting to spend this year sitting on the bench...

It came from a few things. I'm assuming Chelsea still want to hold onto Cole for now. But they have some new signings like Mutu knocking Cole down the pecking order. Plus, this is the key, premeirship clubs can finally loan players to each other. It's really too bad it took so long for this rule. It will help some young talent develop, especially some English talent. And I can see it helping some newly promoted clubs need to take less of a financial risk to try to stay in the top flight.

I think Euell is going to wind up in that attacking midfield role just behind the strikers.

Bartlett will probably rotate with Cole and Di Canio.

Lisbie needs to improve. His indecisions and poor touches when he is one-on-one with the keeper is what is done him in. He panics too much.

The one player I'm wondering about is Jonaton Johansson. He was tearing up the opposition during pre-season. What's going to happen to him? I think I'd be giving him more chances and sending Lisbie out on a season loan to the first division.

I was under the impression, from CM2 actually, that players cannot be loaned out to other teams in the EPL.

I'm assuming this has changed?

Beginning this season English clubs will be allowed to loan players in the same division. This can only help young players who are too good for divisions lower than themselves and forcing them to loaned to club in another country where they may not know the language. It also helps the big clubs give their players a chance to play in the top flight.

My thoughts exactly. I don't want him to leave the club du to lack of playing time. Lisbie could use a loan to a 1st Division team where he could get consistant time and play lots of games. He is still young if I remember correctly.

Johansson does seem to being squeezed out. Mabye a loan would be best for him also.

About Cole, if he plays like he has in the past few years among the youth, this could be a huge addition. I just wonder if he will adjust to being a sub to a potential starter.

It seems like the transfer did come out of nowhere. It is nice to have a respected manager who has a good reputation. It appears that is the way both Di Canio and Cole are ending up at the Valley.
