Or Seedorf, but Foppe prefers Gerald(inho) Sibon and Braafheid above them. Still need to give him the credits for the 2 ECu21 titles, but I can't understand why he doesn't select Bommel or Seedorf.

Because the big boss of the KNVB has ordered that you cannot get selected for the Olympic team if you refuse a selection for the Big team.

Foppe should say to screw and select Van Bommel either way. With Van Bommel he can win gold and become a legend

Yes, he said that. But if Foppe selects Seedorf or v. Bommel the KVNB can't block that. Because what the KNVB said wasn't true.
But that doesn't matter anymore, l Wieleart (failed at PSV Eindhoven), Sibon (failed at Ajax, PSV, Nurnberg, ....) and Makaay will go to the olympic games. But Sibon with young players can give some hilarious TV, Drunken Sibon with very shy Afellay after they won the title. Legendary TV...
Here is the clip but you can't understand it though: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5egDevf4kw

I wonder who Brazil will select instead of him for their 3 overage slots.

This is complete bs imo and shows a lack of class on Milan's part. I get the feeling the Italian FIGC is involved somehow in this decision. Since having Kaká on the Brazil squad directly impacts Italy's chances in Beijing. Because apparently Galliani has a short memory, Andrea Pirlo (who just played at Euro 2004 with Italy) was allowed to play in the Athens Olympics as one of Italy's three overage players.

Only under 23 players are obligated to be released for the Olympics. Clubs have no obligation to release overage players for the Olympics.

It's by no means set in stone, but I think that Italy should be able to advance comfortably from Group D. Their Olympic team is quite impressive even with their coach claiming that he'll not take any overage stars.

I think they are. Because in 2004 Man Utd had to allow Gabriel Heinze to play for Argentina.

Allowing a player to play in the Olympics and being obligated to are two different things.
There are complex politics involved in any specific situation (see the Milan/Kaka mess) that determine whether a player is released or not. Clubs have to balance their needs/wants with keeping the player and/or the national team coach happy.

The only reason the Gabriel Heinze situation came to mind was because Sir Alex was a little cheesed because Heinze came back from the Olympics injured and he didn't feel that Man Utd should've been obligated to allow Heinze to play after a full French season and then playing all Summer for Argentina (WCQ I think).

That's was World Cup Qualifiers. Full, official internationals. The club doesn't have a say in that.
