View Full Version : What will they do with Elber?

I think this is a big topic, Pizarro is on a hot streak, and of course Makaay has been brought in, but what's going to happen to Giovane?
Last season he was league leader, maybe he's just warming up the first couple of games.
I'd like to see Hitzfeld make Pizarro/Elber share time with Makaay up front, and sometimes starting together to give Makaay a rest during a CL/BL week.
Any thoughts?

When Maakay first joined Bayern I thought Hitzfeld would play Maakay-Elber up front. But now after seeing Pizarro a few more times since I must admit Maakay-Pizarro would be better. If either hits a bad patch Elber will get another chance to start or if either one gets injured. But if Pizarro keeps playing well and Maakay hits his form Elber's chances of playing first team will be slim. Elber should be leaving Bayern when his contract runs out in the Summer though, or even sooner if Bayern get a suitable bid.
What will make things really interesting is when Roque Santa Cruz comes back from injury. The battle for starting places should be really interesting then.

Supposedly, Elber would now be willing to move to Monaco. I'd rather they keep Elber. With Bayern's luck (and history), at least two strikers will injure themselves within the next 2-3 weeks. Elber is such an asset to the club; while there may be a No. 1, there's never a guaranteed No. 2. It'd be good to have four great forwards to attack in the BL, CL, and Cup.

elber ain't going anywhere, despite his rantings lately...
he said he wants to stay, according to agente-french press or something like that.

If Bayern is serious about playing for the CL this year Elber is an invaluable part of that. It's ridiculous to think that they could go through an entire Champions League season with Pizzaro/Makaay up front. At some point some one will pick up a knock and you can't count on Roque to be there to fill in. It would be nice, however to have another quality striker, Elber, to step up.

After Hoeneß saying "It would be mental illness to keep Elber", it would be pretty embarassing for Bayern to keep him.

Bayern will surely take a decent offer on Elber. There striking trio of Makaay, Pizarro and Roque are good enough. Let's not forget Bayern won The Champions League with Elber and Jancker up front. Not exactly the best team of strikers ever assembled! Plus, Pizarro is the guy--he has clearly been the best Bayern player to date. Bye Bye Giovanne.

Hoeneß confirmed that Elber immediately leaves towards Olympique Lyon for 4 M Euro.

I don't understand this transfer
I thought Bayern bought Makaay for the Champions League otherwise they could have used possibly just half of the transfer sum to buy some home-grown talent.
We have basically only 3 strikers and if it continues the trend.. Santa Cruz will be injured again with the constantly injured Zickler.

Well, you can't say it wasn't coming.

Of course it was expected he will leave but I was hoping at the end of the season. I thought for this season with Makaay, Pizarro, Elber and Santa Cruz our Champions League hopes would be better
Please no repeat of last year!! I would never hear the end of insults from friends :D Haha!

All I see is a disconnect. Why would you let go the league's leading scorer unless he was an attitude problem?

He already declared he was going to leave after this season (at no financial gain to Bayern). They already signed his replacement. Nice as it would have been to go through the season with extra depth up front, this is Bayern and they simply wanted to come out further ahead on the money side. This way they don't have to pay his salary for the year, and they get 4 or 5 million euros instead of 0.

There is already a backlash amongst the fans and I agree!
Makaay better score quickly or it's going to get rowdy
