We had plenty of opportunities (and not just during the end either) but could make nothing of them. Losing Orr to a broken cheekbone/jaw was a sickener that pretty much crippled us as Marv Elliott had to fill in at RB so couldn't provide much for the forwards. Most puzzling of all was bringing off Carle (our MOM for definite) and giving us Darren Why?field, who gave us next to ******** all for the pittance he was on for.
People went missing at critical times... including the fans for that matter. No complaints against Hull whatsoever, they played with pride and passion and got a good strike off our inept defending. Best of luck for the Prem, they ARE going to need it.

Hard luck Bristol. I think you'll be lucky to hang onto Nick Carle next year though. He looked head & shoulders above everyone else in the team. There'll probably be a few premiership clubs sniffing around pretty soon methinks.

Just wasn't our day was it...! Thought Nick Carle played well and didn't understand why he came off, although wasn't the team selecting nightmare of Cardiff four years ago. I was very proud of the way we played, and the fact that we got there after everyone was writing us off before the season had even started! We look good for next season though, but it's gonna be a tough one. Up the Reds

We'll get there one day, don't worry. Could be this season, could be the next.

It was a strange day, City played a lot of pretty football, but decided not to really try and shoot!! I travelled back from Tampa for the game, and had a great craic!! The new Wembley is fantastic, and you can take a pee, and not miss 15 minutes of the game!! Hopefully City can have a season as good as last, and this time go up in first or second. Seems wierd we sold Carle to Palace though?

It does appear daft as inside the first half of the season he could've been a major player, but with the cash we're attracting a better class of player, even if things go tits-up at the last second (Meteb played with his old club against our wishes and Mifsud - from what we gather - wanted more money after agreeing personal terms.... or Palarse tupped him). But there's a whole 4 weeks to go, so who knows?

Agreed, hopefully the new signing Maynard will help us get those crucial goals we missed last season...although Brooker has started the season well! The whole Nicky Carle thing could be something that could come back and bite us. Let's hope Brooker can stay fit...

Three games, 2 wins and a draw and there's ABSOLUTE ********ING PARANOIA in the fanbase! rumour-mongering around BBC and the Evil Post that Maynard isn't going to do anything much, McCombe and Ribeiro are out long-term and someone is putting up rumours that Basso may be fed up after missing ONE GODDAMN GAME with an ankle injury.
HAVE WE GONE INSANE OR SOMETHING?!? The season is a staggering eleven days old and things are falling part. Are people so fickle to believe we're doomed on the basis that our 2-1/4M striker has scored less than ten goals per game?
Jesus H. Corbett, it beggars belief.

Nice start for Bristol. There's always a risk after the season you had last year (following promotion) that you might get a drop off this season. I think you will be right up there though. Gary Johnson has proven to be a good manager although as this thread suggests the fanbase can get a little bit impatioent down there. When's the new stadium coming? Is this the last season at Ashton Gate?

I thought the result was good .City had the best of the first half and hung on in the second to get a valuable point against a quality Championship(Ex EPL)side IMO.

Please don't ever put the words 'quality' and 'Derby' in the same sentence. :p

Well I don't want to take this way off topic as this is a Bristol City thread but Derby County's last competitive win was....... almost 1 year ago!
That must be coming close to some sort of a record - when was the last time a team that was playing top flight football went that long without a win? Unbelievable.
Anyhoo... good luck Bristol City. I will be rooting for you this season.

The stadium's supposed to begin work in 2011 and be ready for the 2012/13 season, with 30k capacity that can be upped to 40-45 in anticipation of a successful World Cup bid (2018). Of course if South Africa's not ready to host 2010 and England is selected as the standby host Ashton Gate probably won't get a look-in :D

Last night City beat Charlton 2-0, ending a 40-year winless streak at the Valley, with goals from Lee Trundle and the first (hopefully of more than a few) from summer signing Gavin Williams; since Saturday morning we've leapt 6 places straight into playoff contention. Considering that this time last year we were making three-hour cameos at top of the league and we're a marginally poorer side than then it's quite an achievement. Let's hope it lasts!

Bristol City is one of the strongest teams in Championship. I think today on Sv.Valentine Day they will again. :)

Indeed we did :D Five in a row, seven out of the last eight and a huge game away to Doncaster on Tuesday. Only problem is after that it's pretty much top-half teams all the way, and we have won... 0 games against them so far.
