While it's looking like safe and mid-table for the Rs, this is a big match for the home side this afternoon. Town could jump into a playoff spot with a win.

A tough task in a 2nd straight away match. Hogan Ephraim returns from suspension to help. Multiple sources say that Martin Rowlands will be ready after a fitness concern.

What seemed a pretty innocuous nil-nil draw actually contained some controversy and trouble for the Rs.

Goal dissallowed for Ipswich that they are fuming over...

IT WAS A GOAL
Posted on: Mon 31 Mar 2008

It was over the line and it was handball.

Our pictures taken from the cameras around Portman Road clearly show that Shumi'sclose range effort in Saturday's goalless draw against QPR was handled by Matthew Connolly.

The Rangers' defender was also at least a foot behind the line when he made contact with the ball but referee Paul Armstrong waved away Blues' appeals for a goal - and a penalty.

Town skipper Jason De Vos was close to the incident and has no doubts it was a 'goal', telling Ipswich World:"It cost us two points.

And trouble at a train station on the way to the ground involving QPR fans...

Terrified Town fans attacked
31 March 2008

A BAYING mob of away football fans descended on a bar full of Ipswich Town supporters and embarked on a frenzied attack, which up to 50 people were caught up in.

A gang of about 15 Queen's Park Rangers fans smashed bottles, threw bar stools and punched customers in one of the worst scenes of football violence in recent months.

The incident was the third of its kind in the last two months where trouble has been caused following matches, prompting fears the dark days of football hooliganism have returned.

Witnesses reported seeing the away fans, who were on their way back to London from Saturday's goalless match at Portman Road, get off the train as it pulled into Manningtree station at about 6pm. They then burst their way into Manningtree Station Buffet and began shouting “we are QPR” while throwing bottles and punching ITFC fans, including one pensioner.

Disgrace.

"Four men, aged 44, 47, 48 and 50, were arrested by Essex police for offences ranging from affray to actual bodily harm and public order offences."

Does this mean it's the third incident in the Championship, or the third incident specifically involving Rangers away supporters?

If it's the latter, I'm really depressed.

I'm depressed enough at that ugliness to start with. What morons.

Had to kind of wade through the ham-fisted local paper writing to get the info out of that article. Certainly sounds like some Rangers "supporting" knuckleheads were the reason. Not sure if there was anything before or during the match that got the blood pressure rising. Just idiots - every club has their share.

A couple matches tonight in the Championship - both could have a big impact on the table...

Cardiff v West Brom
Sheffield Wednesday v Coventry

No score as of yet in either match. Cardiff need a win to make a playoff push. Weds and Coventry need points toward survival.

Massive goal for Coventry at Hillsborough, could be the winner in the 83rd minute. Could it be one from Wednesday, Southampton, (Cup semi-finalist) Barnsley or Leicester will go down? That'll be a big club in League One next season, all have played in the Premier League. Weds. and Barnsley have been in the third tier recently though - both have a match in hand.

It's one thing for a club like us, Forest, or Wednesday to end up in League One. It would seem to be quite another to only stay up a couple of years before going back down.

If Wednesday makes the drop, that'll probably hit their fans pretty hard. I know how dejected I would have been had we gone back down in '06 or '07 after a good first season back in the Championship in '04-'05.

Speaking of Forest, I never thought their stay in League One would be longer than ours... but they're in year three and a dozen points out of an automatic promotion spot. Ouch. Guess they'll have to try their luck at the playoffs yet again.

Spoke too soon! In true Championship fashion, it's all changed again - Wednesday get an equaliser in the 93rd minute. And it's over...

Full Time - FLC Sheff Wed 1 Coventry 1
Full Time - FLC Cardiff 0 West Brom 0

Southampton are now in the drop zone...

Forest's impressive win at Carlisle tonight puts them in 4th - they're looking a pretty safe bet for the playoffs, but a crap shoot they probably aren't excited about. Leeds are still lurking around in 7th...

wow, who'd a thunk it.No kidding. What odds could you have gotten if you bet that Southampton would be relegated and Bristol City would be promoted!

Holy cow -- the top three are Bristol City, Stoke, and Hull City. Amazing.

West Brom, Watford, and Wolves in 4, 5, and 6, have a game in hand on those three, but only West Brom could pass any of those three (Stoke and Hull) with a win in their game-in-hand.

but only West Brom could pass any of those three (Stoke and Hull) with a win in their game-in-hand.Actually, if West Brom wins their game in hand, they can pass all of the top three because they have a (massively) superior goal difference compared to Bristol City.

I'm gonna come out now and predict that if the promotion places stay the same, somebody will break Derby's pending record for Prem futility, or at least come damn close. :p
