WMA to MP3 Converters

Can anybody tell me where to get or how to manually convert WMA files to MP3 files? I just got 3,000 songs from my friend to put onto my iPod (capacity: 7,500) but I found out they were WMA which isn't compatible with the iPod! All the converters I have foudn either don't work or you have to pay to get, so does anybody know

a) How to convert WMA files to MP3 files manually, or
b) A decent FREEWARE WMA-to-MP3 converter?
