View Full Version : It's Hard to Repeat

Interesting that both the Revs and LA are having trouble making their way back to the Cup match. We both sit at 23 points and both of us seem to have the same inability to play up to our potential and put teams away. The Crew who were close to being in the Cup last year and who were picked to lead the East are also having a verrrry bad spell of form. Just goes to show how hard it is to pick who will do well before the season starts. It seems the old saying that it's hard to repeat has some truth in it.

That being said, we are starting the countdown towards the second season. It will not be the team with the best record going in but the teams in the best form who will do well. The Revs have a reasonable chance of beating out both DCU and the Crew for a playoff spot. If they can somehow overcome their malaise and be able to play well for full matches they should be OK. If they can really catch fire---THEY CAN REPEAT.

So who do you think will miss the playoffs? In the West it looks like Dallas has little chance but then you never know. In the East the Fire and Mutts seem to be safe. The Crew and the Revs seem to be struggling and DCU is a poor team that had some luck in recent matches.

I think Dallas is finished, and I think Columbus will overcome DC, and we'll finish third.

Leave it to the good Doc to try to lift everyone's spirits with the bright side.

Bright side?
About as bright as the sky between yesterday's overtime periods.

Yah, there's a decent amount of talent on this team.

But it ain't performing.
Not to any acceptable level.
One win in what, 11 or 12 league matches?
Pitiful. Just like so many other seasons for this snakebitten franchise.

There may not be a second season.

Columbus is just as likely to pass the Revos.
NE's best hope is keeping Andrulis on the Crew hotseat.

But what of the Revos?
Who is on the hotseat?
Nicol? Sunil? Capobianco? The players?
Lou I? The Krafts?

Who is accountable for the current mess?

Doc, you can look for silver linings from here to the MLS Cup final.
But unless the Revos can straighten out their own act - and soon - this will be another season without playoffs.

This team has the talent to do it.
Doesn't it is gonna happen without some changes.

At least we got some points in those 11 or 12 matches. it would be really bad if we didnt get any. then i would say lets bring out the golf bags.

I highly doubt that CLB is going to be anywhere close to a playoff push. them and dallas will be playing golf before the season ends, thats how bad they will be out. I can see the Mutts slipping like they did last year, as each game i watch them play, it seems like they play for ties. Chicago will run away for a little bit, and most likely win the conference, along with San jose. Thats only if COL lets them. They are on a serious tear, and KC is sliding just that little bit.

Who is accountable for the current mess?

you cant point this mess at anyone except the players. they are the ones who have to get the job done. they are playing well, their only problem is their confidence has been shot to sh|t. those games against MET and DAL really messed them up. that DC shalacking didnt help, and neither has the referees. once they get their confidence back, we will be golden.

What bothers me most is this unconscios form of optimism we keep hearing from the players, to the effect of "we were in a worse spot last year, and look what happened. If we play as well as we're capable of, we can do it again." In theory, it's true, but without a sense of urgency to do it, and do in this game, not next or the one after that, we will be on the outside looking in for the 5th time in 8 seasons.

We've got some good teams left to play, and we will have to be at our best to take significant points along the way:
@LA, @Mutts, @Dallas, @SJ, @Mutts, and home games with Mutts, DC, Columbus, Chicago, and Colorado, not to mention an Open Cup tie with the Mutts in New Jersey.

It won't be easy, and anything less than full potential won't be enough.
