Thanks, Ceres. The quotes that you have added here from the Sports Director have all been very positive - and we don't see such things said about our boys that often. It seems like the club is very much interested in speaking with Tavo about a contract (while they sort out a number of other players as well at the same time, which is clearly an influential piece of the puzzle here).
With the positive statements made in the media by the Sports Director and the fact that the club is looking to sign that many additions, I'd say that our boy looks pretty likely (though not 100%) to get a contract there for next year.
Ceres, when do they generally start announcing the signing of new players? June? If I recall the Danish summer window is very short, so we should have an answer pretty quickly, no?

Normally they try to close the deals as quickly as possible, but you have to consider that when you aim higher than usual and mainly try to sign some of the Danish players in the Dutch and German league, then these players usually drag out the negotiations to see if they get better offers from other Dutch or German clubs.. It's always more difficult to close the deals with the more attractive players on the transfer market, so I expect that it will take a bit longer for AGF to sign the needed reinforcements in this transfer window...

so what's the deal w/ Freddy Garcia? Why can't he come into the US for friendlies? His visa was revoked because for some time he played for the Col. Crew without a work permit. He will be making the trip to Chile.

Gustavo Cabrera is now very close to getting a contract in Denmark with Danish Superliga side AGF Aarhus...
"I'm still having talks with him, and I am certain that he ends up at AGF. I hope that he is here when we begin training on June 23th", Brian Steen Nielsen says.

AGF have so far signed a 3-year contract with the 24-yo Borussia Mönchengladbach winger/forward (and former German U21 international) Nando Rafael (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nando_Rafael) and sold the 18-yo left winger Emil Lyng to the French top-flight side Lille, besides letting 7 other players go... among them a left back, a right back and two central defenders, though one has been way on loan and the rest were from the reserves..

Wow. Have we ever had any other players in the first divisions of Europe? I know Pezzarossi was in 2nd leagues in Spain which is impressive and that he also signed for Bolton but I don't believe that he ever played a game. And Swisher was in the Polish first division but that is not Western Europe. This is a big development for Guate futbol.
Fantastic news. I wonder where the Guate press is on this? They're always talking about how Loco, Pando, Pezza, etc. have deals (which turn out to be false) and then a Danish paper is scooping this and we haven't heard a peep in Guatemala.

This is good for Tavo because it means that there are opportunities if he can prove himself useful.
Ceres, do you know how the fans feel about signing a Guatemalan?

Yes, you could say that ther is less threat from behind, with some of the bench sitters and reserves (playing in the Danish 2nd division (http://www.bold.dk/statistik/tabel.php?liga=650)) leaving the club... AGF do have a weak spot in right back position and no real backup in left back position. According to the latest rumours AGF are only going to reinforce the defense by perhaps signing central defender Dan Thomassen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dan_Thomassen) and then ofcause Gustavo Cabrera ...
Ther is no chance of Tavo getting to play in central defense anyway, because ther are plenty of experienced central defenders in the squad : Ole Budtz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ole_Budtz), Olof Persson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olof_Persson), Kim Madsen (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kim_Madsen),Anders Kure (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anders_Kure) and Frederik Krabbe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederik_Krabbe) while also the two defensive midfielders Kári Árnason (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%A1ri_%C3%81rnason) and Jens Gjesing (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jens_Gjesing) are very useful backups, if needed...
In right back AGF got Ulrik Lindkvist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulrik_Lindkvist) (who is alway injured), Cheikh Sarr (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheick_Sarr) (who also has suffred much setback due to injuries) and then Frederik Krabbe (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederik_Krabbe) (who is a talented central defender, but not really a convincing right back)
In left back position ther is only the young StarMichael Lumb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Lumb) and then no real backup, except perhaps for Ulrik Lindkvist (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ulrik_Lindkvist) who, as written, is alway injured...
Ceres, do you know how the fans feel about signing a Guatemalan?
I think most of them dont really know what to think at this point.. Not because he is Guatemalan, but because he has no experience from Europe and we especially are suppose to sign experienced players of the same kind as Nando Rafael (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nando_Rafael) ...
However, most of the fans are positive ant think it is good to get a player who got this much NT experience and that he will be a good addition to the squad, while some fans are asking why he has no experience playing for a good club (by European standard ).

AGF sporting director Brian Steen Nielsen is always a man of his word, so if he is saying to the newspapers that he is certain Cabrera will end up at AGF, then it is because it is as good as a done deal... To mee it seems like AGF have now offered Cabrera a contract and that they are just waiting for a final reply and signature..

Well, I posted and quoted the article from prensalibre.com above at the main AGF support foum.... and not surprisingly it very quickly made the big Danish newspapers pick up on the story and start asking questions :D ...
http://gramtrans.com/gt/url/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fjp.dk%2Fsport%2Ffodbold%2Fsuperliga%2Fagf%2Farticle1370565.ece&pair=dan2eng&x-form-id=translate_url
In short, the AGF sporting director Brian Steen Nielsen confirm the story from prensalibre.com and add that they are working on getting a work permit, but that they dont really know how long it will take beacuse of the summer vacation.
He also says that as long as Gustavo Cabrera has no work permit it will be better for him to stay at the Guatemalan NT training camp for the time being.. Brian Steen Nielsen expect that it will take some time for him to adapt to the Superliga and they expect to sign a rather short term contract of upto 1-year.
