He really needs to go to the soccer store to try them on and make sure they fit.

Goalie gloves should fit a little large so they bunch up at the bottom of the palm when the ball comes in.

You can spend any where from $10 to $100.
Make sure you get soft foam fingers and palms, bumpy rubber is bad.

They offer 'finger save' - 'ortho-tec' gloves with hard hinged plastic in the back of each finger. This protects the goalies fingers when they get kicked.

If his hands are small, you may be able to get a youth Addias Finger Save for around $60. Adult finger saves run $85 to $90.

I can get the 'house' brand finger save, with soft foam palms for around $45 at my local soccer store.

Actually a lot of keepers, including me, prefer a tight fitting glove. Other prefer to wear them big. your brother need to find out what works best for him.

For that age, I wouldn't spend too much on gloves. Thirty bucks will get you a perfectly good pair for him. I tell the kids I coach not to spend more than about twenty bucks.

But I do tell them to wear gloves that feel about two sizes too big. It's more difficult to control shots when your gloves are tight.

Two sizes to big? That would be way to much for me. I say let your brother find what works best for him by letting try on different sizes

I would not spend big bucks on Fingersave gloves at this age. He needs to develop strong fingers and learn to catch the ball w/o Finger protection first.

I would take him into the store and let him try different gloves on and see which _feel_ better on him. (Not which look better - which gloves feel better).

Follow the glove size guide on the back of the glove box. Don't buy him gloves two sizes too big.

In other words, don't buy Nike. ;)

I agree with the other posters that I wouldn't spend big bucks on the Fingersave glove (or its cousins) for a 12 year old. Unless he already has a fair bit of experience and plays at a high level. It's more important for him to make sure he develops the proper technique and sometimes those kinds of gloves (especially the Uhlsport Supportframes that I have) hinder it. Plus, at 12, he'll probably start growing so fast that the gloves might not fit him for very long. The $20-30 kind should be find. Let him try them out himself.

Be sure to check out that site, too. It great for goalkeepers.

I've had the same sized hands since I was 13.

Fingersave gloves should be avoided @ all costs IMO unless you have bad fingers.

The companies that do produce fingersave style gloves don't neccessarily produce the best latex.

If a glove fits like, well, a glove, then the whole point of having a glove is taken away, which is to absorb some of the energy of the ball.

But if you've used nothing but adidas how do you know there's not something better out there (Sells, HO etc)

As for shock absorbtion I rely more on my technique then my gloves. I feel that with a baggy fit my hands are just sliding around etc. If gloves weren't meant to be worn baggy then they would have never created inner latex to achieve a tighter fit.

Yes, Avidsinger, addias gloves do grip well but there are better gloves out there. Sells make some great latexs and I haven't worn HO but I'm sure Becks7 knows what he's talking about ;) .

The last supersoft adidas glove I wore was the Clima, i haven't worn the either of the ES2/ES3 stuff but my HO's grip better then my clima's did...but that's my opinion

Keep hates Nike! I think he should try some sondico waves good durability and good price. Can double as Match or training glove.

I used my Fingersaves for the first time this past Saturday and I didn't have a problem with the latex at all. In fact, it felt like catching a pillow, because the latex was very soft and it helped my grip.

Typically, I might drop two or three balls in a game (okay, so I'm not Gianluigi Buffon) but all my catches last weekend were clean. Of course, that could be because I spent all summer coaching and some of it rubbed off on me, too...

I've noticed my technique is a lot better now than it used to be, so I do catch more than I once did, but I've always been more comfortable with big, baggy gloves. Personal preference, I guess.
