Hardest match of the Bundesliga calender starts in 30 minutes!
We can, but shouldn't expect to take anything from this match - any points would be a great result!
Come on boys, give ScheissBayern a run for their money!

Oh, and I may add that our amateurs beat ScheissFCB II 3-1 away from home this weekend... a sign of things to come? :D

HT 1-1.
We went down 1-0 early on and there was little reason to be optimistic, but then Toni da Silva, who's been playing great the last few weeks, scored an equalizer for us and that's the score for now. So we're still in contention for points!

Au weia, what a bad 2nd half...
The CL quali dream should be over now.

Yeah, it is.
But a top 5 position is still very much possible as we remain equal on points with Hamburg and Leverkusen.
We gave it our best today but Bayern were just too strong. Next game will be at home to Frankfurt, and that is one where i'll be expecting us to return to winning ways.

Overall it wasn't a good performance, particularly defensively. Schaefer can't be directly blamed for any of the goals, besides perhaps the second one where he set up the wall poorly, but he still wasn't good and ultimately let in 4 goals. Ricardo Osorio was bad and I really do think Beck should become the starting rightback for the rest of the season. Tasci did badly as he has done most of this season, but the worst player today was Delpierre. Directly at fault for the first goal, then got a yellow, then looked poor versus Ribery multiple times. One of his worst performance in a VfB shirt that I can remember, but it's not a big problem, everyone can have off-days. Magnin did ok until he was forced to go off and Boka, while he looked good versus Nuernberg in the midfield, again looked less convincing then Magnin defensively after he came in.
The midfield was ok, but not great. Basturk, Hilbert and Pardo all gave mediocre, acceptable performance. With Basturk this is pretty much what he does every single weekend...da Silva on the other hand looked good, he's been our best player for two matches in a row now. I think he should definitely remain in the starting lineup for the end of the season and I believe these performances show that we definitely shouldn't be offloading him in the summer.
The attack looked alright considering the minimal opportunities they had. Gomez wasn't fully fit yet but he gave a solid performance, as did Cacau, now i'm hoping Torrero will go a step further and score some more goals when we play Frankfurt.
That'll be a match that we have to win if we want to keep up the pace for the Uefa Cup spots, and I do believe that we will be able to get the 3 points on Saturday.

in recent news:
The Simak deal is now official :)
He comes for about 400,000 Euros, a good price for him i'd say! Welcome to the club, Jan!

in other news, we are still suffering from injury problems, as we have done all season:
Meira won't be around for the Frankfurt game, the injury's a shame since he's really improved his form in the second half of the season. Hitzlsperger will also miss the game, a shame but at least he has been covered well be da Silva. Finally Magnin looks like he'll miss at least the Frankfurt game and also Alexander Farnerud, who's been playing for VfB II recently, is now injured, although this isn't really a problem.
On the bright side, Khedira is back in training and should be able to make the bench for the Frankfurt match.

One question. Is this deal a "silent admission" by the club that the Basturk deal was a mistake??
Not in getting him, but in how much he's actually worth??

It's definitely not a possibility. Especially with Canizares retiring after this season.
Dreaming is optional. ;) :D

Dunno, I think the intention of Simak will at first be simply to provide more depth to the squad and be a back-up to the creator role, behind Basturk, unless we go on to buy another creator.
I don't think this deal is meant to reflect that the Basturk purchase was a mistake, instead it is probably meant to reflect an admission that the club made a mistake in failing to provide enough competent back-up for this season, which often led to problems when injuries came around (7-8 VfB II players made their professional debuts at some point this season!), a mistake which the club is now attempting to rectify for next year.
As for Basturk's wage, there seems to be no doubt that it was over-the-top. Afaik he's the highest-paid player on the squad, and taking his mostly mediocre performances this season into consideration, that suggests he is indeed being paid well over what he really is worth.

Personally, I think Bastürk was a mistake. He was injured most of the time and when he was playing he wasn't exactly stellar. To be honest, I'd even prefer da Silva in the starting line-up before Bastürk...
Simak is sort of a wild card. Maybe he finally performs and deserves a place in the staring line-up, but if not, he was still cheap enough to sit on the bench...

Well, Basturk must have been reading our complaints :D
Great game by Yilidiray, two goals, played a part in the other goals as well and created numerous chances for our strikers throughout the game. Easily his best match yet for the club, an excellent performance by him, I was very pleased.
Cacau and Gomez have gotten right back into the swing of things since Super Mario's return from injury. A goal for him today, played a part in the other opportunities as well, but to day Cacau was better I thought, scored as well and simply played a all-around very good game.
Honourable mentions to Boka as well who played good game in place of Magnin and da Silva was solid as well. Hilbert was also good, but failed to take his many chances to score though.
Overall though a very good performance, especially in the first half. So we gained the three points we needed and we're fifth again unless Leverkusen win tomorrow. HSV unfortunately seems to be back on form, but all we gotta do is concentrate on our own matches and just try and get a win from each one.
Today was very convincing.

I think I should trash talk some of our players more often. Every time I say something bad about a player, the next game he proves me wrong...
So I'll say that Gomez really sucked this game...actually this whole season. His goals were pure luck and I hope to never again see him in the starting line-up...;)

Agreed. Given the chances he got today every half-decent striker would have earned a hat-trick.;)

I don't think two goals against Frankfurt changes anything. This guy hasn't come close to living up to what he was brought in to do.
