I hope that Schlaudraff will move to Stuttgart, because that would be a real reinforcement.
With the option of playing 4-5-1 I don't see the need of another support striker.
And a guy who barely made the first 11 at Aachen? Won't make the bench with us.
I'm not completely sold on Simak yet and I doubt that there'll be any other big name that would strengthen our team. So it'll be tough to reclaim our place in the Bundesliga.
Well I as most people would prefer if da Silva stays but not sure if he still wants to. Both Simak and Lanig would be rather small investments and are IMHO a sign that the managnement just want to add more depth to our CM options.
I would bet we finally get the counterpart to Hilbert, Boka has shown last game how valuable such a player can be. E.g. Daisuke Matsui who was linked with us in the french presswould fit.
Only now as our win against Nürnberg makes a qualification for Europe quite certain will Heldt be able to start determined talks with possible candidates. But the stadium-deal has been much more reasonable than expected so I'm sure we have the money to make atleast one expensive transfer this session.
Edit: I agree that "not quite ready" is a strange term given we don't have a young squad (counting only first 11)

I know this is late, haven't been here since a few days, but I gotta say I was really pleased with our win against Nuernberg, what a way to put the Leverkusen game behind us!
We got lucky to be gifted a goal in the third minute through Pinola's outrageously stupid header that was meant to return to Blazek, and then we scored the 2-0 shortly afterwards. After just 30 minutes, we had tied up the game. We had a few chances in the second half, such as Hilbert's big one in the 87th minute, but we weren't able to make use of them. No worry though, we still got an easy 3 points against a Nuernberg side whom I expected to cause is notable difficulties.
When Veh said Schaefer has been training well, I now have reason to believe him. I was against putting him back in goal, but on this occasion at least he was very good - kept a cleansheet and made a couple of good saves. Will he turn out a success after all? We'll see, but he's now earned a second chance.
The defense in general was solid, Magnin started again which pleased me, I think he's just generally a better leftback than Boka, at least for now. Boka, meanwhile played left mid on Wednesday. An odd decision by Veh imo, I wouldn't have done it, but it turned out a success as Arthur played well throughout the game! In midfield i'd single out Toni da Silva however. I said before the game that he should start and that maybe this would be his last chance in the starting side this season, and he made the best out of it, played a really good game! In attack, we didn't play with Cacau/Marica as I had hoped, in fact Marica spent the entire 90 minutes on the bench, Cacau did very well as lone striker though, getting a goal and an assist. I was also pleased to see that Manuel Fischer and another of our talents, Julian Schuster, were given some minutes at the end :)
Overall it was an excellent performance by the boys, can't complain about anything really, everyone did well. We're now back ahead of Leverkusen and 5 points ahead of 7th place, meaning that it's highly unlikely that we won't even make the UI Cup(which, in its present form, is practically a uefa cup spot), and we also have a good chance of staying in the top 5, after all only goal difference separates us from HSV now. The CL dream isn't totally gone yet, 3 points from Schalke, 5 from Bremen, it's still possible... but we have a very tough run-in, and with the form Schalke and Bremen showed midweek, we'd probably have to win every single one of our remaining matches to make the CL, which would include the game away to ScheissBayern. So i'm not thinking about Champions League, it's almost impossible in my opinion, all we can do is have a good run in, make the top 5-6, and see what happens.

As luck would have it, Raphael Schäfer returned to the "starting eleven" just for the game against his former team...;)
Btw: Was that really the BL debut for your great striker talent Manuel Fischer? What about loaning him out to Fürth for next season? :-)

Yeah, he had already played for us in the last 20 minutes of the Barca away match, but this was his BuLi debut. People from within the club, coaches who have seen him and many other big talents develop through are ranks, said that it was always clear that Gomez would turn out better than Kuranyi and that signs show that Fischer could turn out just as good or even better than Gomez. Either way, we have reason to believe that he could turn into a VERY, very good player.
And I wouldn't wanna loan him out, i'd like to have him as one of our four strikers next season, and slowly bring him onto the scene :) Out strikers next year should be :
Gomez-Cacau-Marica-Fischer
and if Gomez leaves, then some big-name striker as his replacement. But I remain confident he'll stay :)

What is the reason for the big gap in the schedule this weekend? Do they just put a hole in all the schedules due to the Pokal final?

That is usually true, but this past weekend, you had the FCN v. VfL Wolfsburg make-up match from Week 28.
FCN won 1-0 yesterday.

Recent News:
We used the Pokal Final weekend to play a friendly against SKV Rutesheim, a non-league side. Gomez, Hitzlsperger, Khedira, Meira and Osorio were all out with minor injuries while Delpierre, Magnin, Pardo, Basturk and Cacau were all given a rest. So it was effectively our 'b' side that got a run out.
The game ended with a 12-2 win for us. Marica scored 6 goals, triple the amount he has scored in competitive games for us this season, Fischer and Radu both scored twice, and da Silva and Schuster got goals aswell. Letting in 2 goals was a bit awkward, both Schaefer and Ulreich let one in.
We played with this side:
Schäfer (46. Ulreich) - Beck (46. Hilbert), Tasci (46. da Silva), Pischorn, Boka (33. Funk) - Schuster, Meißner, Farnerud - Radu (76. Schipplock), Marica, Fischer (60. Morys)

Martin Lanig's arrival from Greuther Fuerth has now been confirmed. He signed a contract until 2011, now we have to time to see whether he'll be the next Roberto Hilbert :) Good luck, Martin!

Not important, but VfB legend Aleksander Hleb was back in town in order to meet old friends Stuttgart and VfB. He still follows the club, and he thinks we can beat ScheissBayern on the weekend :)

He's also suspended for the rest of the Premiership season, so it's not like he had anything else better to do. ;)

He's one of my favourite players ever I gotta say, I still dream that maybe when he's older and nearing the end of his career, he'll come back to finish it at the club he came from :)

I'm not saying anything badly about him now. But he may be back before that point......

I know it's not an easy run in, but my prediction(which probably won't be accurate since form switches from now until the end of the season):
vs. Hannover: 3 points
vs. Hamburg: 3 points
vs. Leverkusen: 0 points
vs. Nuernberg: 3 points
vs. Bayern: 3 points
vs. Frankfurt: 3 points
vs. Dortmund: 1 point
vs. Wolfsburg: 1 point
vs. Arminia Bielefeld: 3 points
that would equal to 17 out of a possible 28 points and 5 wins, 2 draws, 2 losses. If we do end up getting this many points in the rest of the season I will probably be satisfied, but I'm pretty certain it would not be enough for a Champions League spot.
But we really should just take it one game at a time. If we end up in the top 6 and make it to Europe, i'll be satisfied, a CL spot would be terrific, that would even make the season a success despite all the frustrations. But it would be very hard to reach and we'll just have to see.
FYP ;)

what makes you think this?
Because since the Arsenal "old guard" left, Wenger keeps things "fresh" there. If you see any players there as long as Henry and Bergkamp were, I think it will be guys like Senderos and maybe van Persie.
There's nothing specific, I just think Hleb will eventually move on and will probably return to Stuttgart. Just my personal feeling on the matter.
