No stream for this, so I'm stuck watching Schalke vs. Rangers...
I forgot about that match. Which isn't surprising seeing that I have a severe dislike of both clubs...... ;)
Saturn v. VfB has been a decent match. You can tell which club is already into its season and which club is still preparing for theirs.
But, I think when taking into consideration the players they have missing, VfB is doing all right.
75th minute, Manuel Fischer in for Cacau

It's over. Saturn won 1-0.
That's not so bad for VfB, but they will need to come up with a much better effort next Sunday in Stuttgart.
Despite having the better of play for most of the second half, Stolz still had to make a few big saves to keep that match at 1-0.
I don't see any reason for anyone to be discouraged, but this Saturn team is no joke.
Again, VfB will need a much better effort next weekend to advance.

Well, Saturn only need to score one (which they seem perfectly capable of) and Stuttgart will practically be out (unless they score three).
I wonder whether Stuttgart shouldn't have adjusted it's whole pre-season (transfers, restart of training) to the UI Cup rather than to complain about the inconvenience caused. The Uefa Cup is nothing to be thrown away.

I'm just surprised that Ljuboja even played

Right. VfB cannot allow Saturn to score first in Stuttgart, if at all. Saturn looked to be a pretty capable side.

I totally agree. Is there some rule about how much vacation players get after a major tournament??
It did end right at three weeks ago.

Why? His attitude has been his problem in the past. The guy actually does have some talent.

Yeah, this was a shock for me too... but I'm interested to see if we can find the back of the net and seal up a strong showing in a week.

So are we going to have something closer to the full strength team next week?

That's "The Cannibal" man. Dutch international central defender Khalid Boulahrouz. He belongs to Chelsea right now, but before that, he was with Hamburg.

According to this article (http://www.teamtalk.com/football/story/0,16368,2483_3847127,00.html), VfB has agreed to personal terms with Khalid Boulahrouz (aka "The Cannibal"), but still has to agree on a transfer fee with Chelsea.

Hey guys, just found some internet, here are my opinions on recent news:
First of all, the match versus Ramenskoje. Crap performance and I knew this Russian side wouldn't be easy to beat, and now they've gone and beaten us. I'd still say we have a good chance of progressing, I will be very upset if we don't, but we'll have to play very well at home and it's a great shame we couldn't get an away goal. But let's hope for the best.
On the players:
Only real bright spot was Stolz - i'm very surprised he was picked for going in goal this match but from the highlights I saw was really pretty impressive. So good for him! In defense, Boka was our best, he may well start over Magnin this coming season, meanwhile I still don't believe Hilbert should play in defense. The midfield seemed uninspiring from what I saw, Basturk particularly was poor and with Simak putting in an alright performance, atleast the best in midfield imo(only from what i've seen though), I think there's a good chance Basturk could head for the bench. If Hitz is fit in time, as he is training with the side now after all, I hope he can return and replace Basturk for the return game.
The attack wasn't great, Ljuboja didn't take his chance and i'd be happy to send him back to the bench. Marica missed that one huge chance but i'd still rather have him start than Ljuboja, and Fischer I think should also be given a chance, not just in the last 15 minutes. I'd seriously rather have a hot prospect like hiim playing instead of Ljuboja. Also, Gomez is training now as well, i'm hoping he can get atleast 20-30 minutes in the return leg if we're doing poorly and need something extra.
My lineup for next game:
Stolz
Hilbert--Delpierre-Tasci--Boka
-------------Pardo
---Khedira----------Hitz
------------Simak
------Cacau----Marica
As for transfer news:
Meira seems to be on his way out for certain, it's a shame, and too bad he wants to leave so bad now, but I guess he just really wants a new challenge. I'll always have the good memories of him, the best one of course will be him lifting the BL Plate - the wrong way around haha :D
So best of luck, Fernando, wherever you end up!
However.....
Boulahrouz is an awesome buy imo :) - we know he's got ability, he showed it with HSV at all times, he also put in a good euro performance for Holland in my opinion. I'm just really happy we've got him now, he's even a step up on Meira imo! And I guess this was an even better option than Friedrich. Delpierre and Tasci looked uneasy against Ramenskoje, and although I rate both, i'm looking forward to seeing Boulahrouz in the center of our defense next season, with Delpierre it could form one of the best central defenses of the Bundesliga! And of course with Tasci's youth, potential, and the existing ability he already showed during the Meister season, he ll also remain in the picture.
Ill try and pop back in before the Ramenskoje return leg, and for now,
Welcome Khalid!

Anyone concerned that the recent tragedy in his personal life will negatively affect his performance for the club this year? It would seem like something that would be a big distraction for him, and understandably so.

Any word on whether Boulahrouz was brought in to play CB or RB? Personally, I'd rather see him at RB. Tasci and Delpierre will get it together as the team moves forward, and I would rather have Roberto available as a midfielder.

Don't understand the critism on Hilbert having to play defense last game.
With Beck + Meira leaving, Boulahrouz still in London, Pischorn + Träsch injured,
Magnin + Osorio on holiday there were only 3 defenders available.
Doesn't mean defense will be Hilbert's lot in the future.
VfB.de has announced Meira's transfer to Galatasaray.
Good luck for a sympatic player.

Well, of course it's a short term solution, but let's just hope that this won't last for too long. Hilbert is just too effective in midfield.

Wow, I have to say that I'm surprised. I would have thought that he'd go to a high profile European club. Galatasaray will probably pay him quite a lot, but I'd suspect that he'll leave within a year. Turkish clubs have never been the most reliable when it comes to payments. Still, I hope it'll all work out fine for Fernando. He is a great guy after all.
