[QUOTE]From what I'm hearing these days, there's a very good chance of that happening.....

I sure hope so.

You guys talk all this mess about all the money Hoffenheim has and nobody mentions the fact that they are NOT tearing up the transfer market. Hoffenheim's plan isn't to spend loads of money. They have a seriously structured, FOOTBALL BASED, plan they are sticking to.

Sure, the money helps and it definitely made the difference at the 2. Liga level, but with you talking about "all the money they have" don't you think they would have gone after someone more experienced and proven than Beck??

Don't you think they would have signed someone like Ivan Klasnic already??

The fact of the matter is, it is not imperative for Hoffenheim to remain in the 1. Liga this season. They won promotion two years before their plan called for it.

They are still trying to build from the ground up. Don't forget, their "B-Junioren" team did win the German Championship this season......

Here I think you may have misunderstood my point. My point had little to do with Hoffenheim's finances, rather that was just a side comment, instead I was writing about how I DIDN'T expect us to be in a position where we'd have to sell to them even this early in their Bundesliga time, but instead would probably have to sell to them in later seasons if Hopp sticks around, which i'm guessing he will. I was just expressing my disappointment that already now we have lost a useful player to Hoffenheim.

Maybe management THOUGHT they had Beck talked into staying. Maybe Beck told them he'd stay, but then got an offer from Hoffenheim he couldn't refuse.

I don't think you know enough about what happened to say Heldt was "basically talking out his ass."

Perhaps the player changed his mind.

Well, obviously they did think they had Beck talked into staying, otherwise I doubt he would've said that. But fact is he was expressing the situation at a time when it clearly wasn't done, which proved to be misleading.

Because no matter how "bright" you think he is, he can be replaced and they don't need to keep a player who doesn't want to be there.

Of course we didn't need to keep him, it just would've been good to keep him. And he can be replaced, but I ask myself why sell and then look after replacing a player who easily had the potential to play regularly for VfB for many seasons to come?

This sentence should have eliminated the majority of the message.

I disagree with this - before carrying on with our summer transfers I did feel the need to give my 7 reasons as to why I thought this was an irritating move. After giving them, then sure we can change topic and go forwards, but I don't think I shouldn't have expressed my skepticism just because a move could no longer be changed, in fact I find it slightly disrespectful to suggest that my points should've been merely ignored as the deal is done.

From very classy to very childish all in two lines......

Again, how do you know Beck didn't demand to leave?

First of all, I don't see what was childish there: I don't like Hoffenheim, and I wish them no success at all, and I think in football every fan has these feelings for certain teams. Nothing childish there. And i'll add that that comment had nothing to do with acquiring Beck, I can't blame them for that, they made a good move! It was completely unrelated to this situation and was instead focused on my general lack of sympathy for Hoffenheim.

As for Beck wanting to leave, well obviously he did want to leave as it was his choice. But I'm not blaming him for that, in fact in point 2 of my last post I explained why I believe it's understandable that Beck wanted to leave.

I still wish him the best of luck in his development.

 OK. I'll chalk that up to misunderstanding every word you said.

Yes, I was about to report this too, games will be played from the 7th to the 10th of August.

I'm assuming we'll be facing the Russian side, regardless of how this round pans out. They should, on paper, be the strongest of our potential opposition.

Looks like you were right on. According to this report (http://www.espnsoccernet.de/news/story?id=553785), they beat the Luxembourg side 7-0 in the first leg of the matchup.

Alex Farnerud has left VfB as expected, his new club will be Danish heavyweights Brondby, who paid 800,000 euros for his services.

He arrived to VfB for 2 million and I had high hopes for him, but unfortunately he could never really show the potential that everyone believed he had. I said after last season, where he was mostly a bench player, that he had ability and we should keep him in our plans for the new season and see if there's an improvement. Veh must've agreed with me there, but unfortunately his performances did not improve in any way this season and now it is logical that we sell him.

Yep, and I also read that ex-Cottbus/Wolfsburg player Marko Topic plays for them and even scored in that game. I haven't heard of him for years, and a side that would still include him as a starter do not sound like world beaters.

But Russian teams are difficult to judge, they have very few proper big-name players, but are still very strong. Bayern made the mistake of misjudging them this season, CSKA Moscow were grossly under-estimated throughout their Uefa Campaign 3-4 years ago, and Russia, despite playing some excellent football, were also properly underestimated in this year's Eurps. So I hope VfB won't make the same mistake, and will give it their all in the two games despite the lack of prestige in their opposition.

Also, I just saw the highlights of our second friendly against Rottweil:

Lineup:
Ulreich - Hilbert (46. Funk), Tasci (46. Nyman), Delpierre (46. Pischorn), Träsch - Khedira (46. Rudy), Pardo (46. Mandjeck), Bastürk (46. Lanig), Simak (46. Walch) - Cacau (46. Morys), Fischer (46. Schipplock)

We won 8-0. Goal scorers were: Fischer(2), Simak, Hilbert, Walch, Pischorn and Schipplock(2).

Obviously shouldn't read into a performance like this too much, but here are little sidepoints from the game:
- Nyman, who is still on trial with us, got a test match here, but obviously it wasn't too difficult to perform ok here.
- Delpierre made his first game after a light injury he had been sufferring from this summer.
- Traesch played the full 90 minutes, i'm interested in following him, he was good in the only BL match he's every played(against Schalke).
- Basturk and Simak both played, interestingly enough, and also interestingly from the highlights I saw Simak was often at the centre of a build-up while I saw practically nothing from Basturk. That's curious, so, round one Simak?
- Fischer looks good, i'm looking forward to seeing him play more regularly for us this season. Schipplock has also been good whenever i've seen him, for VfBII and in this test. He seems to have potential, I could definitely see him becoming a future Bundesliga player. But I don't see him as high up as say, Kuranyi, Gomez or the potential I believe Fischer has, so I don't know whether Schipplock could have a bright future with us, but he is a good player and we should look out for his performances with the second side.

Also, on another note it seems Veh's new plan with regards to Ljuboja is to actually FORGIVE HIM and let him be part of the side again, at least for the UI-Cup games where we'll be missing Gomez, Marica and possibly Fischer. Well, can't say i'm the biggest fan of this move, but who knows, perhaps it is better to give him a second chance, especially since we can't seem to be able to get rid of him anymore...

Why not? Give him another chance. Clubs have been hurt in the past for merely refusing to forgive a guy who then went on to star somewhere else.

Fans and clubs need to learn to be more forgiving. These guys are only human and all of us have been idiots at one point or another in our lives.

Totally agree. And I posted this German TV news over at the TV thread they've got going:

DSF will broadcast both legs of VfB Stuttgart's UEFA Intertoto Cup match-up that will most likely be against Russia's Saturn Ramenskoje. The first leg will be in Russia on either 19 or 20 July. The second leg will be in Stuttgart on either 26 or 27 July.

I'll definitely be watching and cheering for VfB.

Yes, good news.

On a more bitter note, Marco Pischorn injured himself in a duel in training and will now miss 6 weeks, thereby sitting out on the entire summer preparation program.

In the latest friendly, the last one before the Intertoto Cup matches, VfB beat Oberliga side SG Sonnenhof Grossaspach 3-1.

Embarrassingly enough, they went down early, but then goals by Cacau, Lanig and youth-NT player Sebastian Rudy turned the game around.

Here's how the team played:
Ulreich (46. Stolz) - Hilbert, Tasci, Delpierre (70. R. Schuster), Boka (65. Träsch) - Pardo (46. Lanig), Khedira (65. Mandjeck) - Bastürk (65. Rudy), Simak, Morys (46. Ljuboja) - Cacau (70. Fischer)
