Iranian Defender On Trial With VfB (http://www.bundesliga.de/en/liga/news/2007/index.php?f=98443.php&fla=1)

Hey Stuttgart fans,

I can give you a bit more information on the Iranian player (Sheys Rezaei) that is currently on trial with VfB.

He plays for Persepolis, an extremely popular Tehran-based club. While his preferred position is RB, he can also play at CB or RM. His technical skills are quite strong for a defender.

The truth of the matter is that Sheys is hardly ever called to the national team, largely due to his attitude. While no one can deny this kid's talent, he is often criticized for being arrogant and immature. Moreover, Iran has a number of talents to compete for the right side of the field, such as Mahdavikia and Kaebi.

It would be great to see Sheys in a Stuttgart uniform next season, and if he's accepted, I'm sure the Bundesliga will quickly put his attitude in check ;).

Hi!
Thanks for the summary, gotta say i've never heard of him, but we'll see how he does in his trial. If he trains well and shows potential, i'm certain Veh won't overlook it and will sign him. So that's someone to pay attention to in the coming days, we'll see what happens with Rezaei.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Bundesliga schedule came out today:
We have an average-ish start, away to Gladbach. Won't be easy to play away from home to a newly-promoted BL2 champion. However, we'll have home games on the second and third BL days. The second will be a toughie versus Bayer Leverkusen, the third a more manageable game against Hannover. It's hard to see how we'll start this season, we could end up right up there after the first few days, or we could be in the bottom spots at this time as well.

Other important dates:
Matchday 5: Home derby against KSC.
Matchday 7: VfB - Bremen.
Matchday 10: HSV - VfB.
Matchday 15: VfB - Schalke
Matchday 17: VfB - Bayern
Matchday 18: Start second half at home to Gladbach.
Matchday 22: Away derby against KSC.
Matchday 24: Bremen - VfB
Matchday 32: Schalke - VfB
Matchday 34: Final day away to Bayern.

I can't believe we got Bayern on the last day of the season! I don't know whether to be pleased or terrified, but either way we're gonna have a very tough run-in playing Schalke and Bayern away in the last 3 games. It'll be very hard, and it's a shame we can't start or finish the season at home.

Would be an interesting buy. He's obviously a player with huge potential, unfortunately he didn't show that in Tottenham though and was a flop this season. But he still has talent, so if we could get him at a reasonable price I would definitely be for this move - he has the ability to play regularly on our starting 11 if he's on form. It looks likely he'll come though, we'll probably know within the next 48 hours.

Also, alongside Rezaei, we also have Finnish NT player Ari Nyman (from FC Thun) training with us now. He's 24 and a defender, and once again I can't say more on him. I guess we'll need to keep an eye out for his performances as well.

Dude, K-P Boateng's problem is that he already thinks he's great and refuses to recognize he isn't "the finished product" yet.

He went to Tottenham saying all the right things and then pulled the same shit he did in Berlin.

This isn't an "outside fan's" opinion on him, I've talked to guys who've played and worked with him.

One of the guys called Boateng a "rock-head."

I hope Veh can reach him because then, you guys will have a steal.

I didn't want him in Dortmund because we've got enough head cases on the team. We didn't need another one.

I wish you guys the best of luck with him.

Are we really going to have Lehmann minding the nets for us this season? I can't even pretend to be excited about the prospect of that.

The way I see it, he's an enormous upgrade on last season's keeper, and if he's on form he could be just as good as Hildebrand was.

Plus, his experience will make him a positive mentor for Ulreich, who could possibly be our future in goal.

When he's on form, there's not many better. And one of those few is definitely NOT named Hildebrand.

He'll learn a lot from Jens. Weidenfeller did.

I agree, Jens is certainly not at his best, but he's still better than many out there. His experience is also invaluable.

And considering Hildebrand, I think Schaefer's utter failure made Timo look like a better keeper in hindsight than he really is.

I know Lehmann was obviously the much better keeper if you look over their entire careers. But Lehmann is now almost 40, and although he's had a very successful career, I couldn't see him playing at his VERY BEST, by which I mean the sort of keeping that took Arsenal to the CL final, anymore at this stage, and Hildebrand really was brilliant in his last season with us. I remember a compilation I saw a month ago showing his top 10 saves of that season, some were really amazing and reminded me once again how excellent he had been in that last year, in my opinion the best goalkeeper of the Bundesliga for that year. Personally, I used to think he shoulld replace Lehmann as Germany Number 1, I was truly shocked when he ended up not being included in the side at all for the EM. But that's another story.

I know i'm overrating him enormously :p , but I do have my reasons for that, and while I wouldn't argue that Hildebrand is a better keeper than Lehmann, I WOULD argue that Lehmann at this stage in his career could not possibly in my eyes perform as well as Timo did in the 03/04 and 06/07 seasons, because those were astounding seasons. However, looking on careers overall, certainly Lehmann was the better GK, there's not even a need to debate that.

In todays news, Andy Beck has moved to Hoffenheim after all. This development really really pissed me off for a number of reasons, which i'll go over later today when I have time.

I thought this transfer makes sense.

What have you been smoking? Hildebrand pretty much carried the team to the championship.

He was supposed to be the new Wunderkind and hasn't come close to living to that hype.

As to the Timo vs. Jens question, Hildebrand is terribly streaky, but when he is on form there aren't many better out there. I don't what kind of bridges he burned with the DFB for them to take two backups with a combined three caps ahead of him when it was time for Euro squad selection.

In todays news, Andy Beck has moved to Hoffenheim after all. This development really really pissed me off for a number of reasons, which i'll go over later today when I have time.

Ok, so here's why:

1. Andy Beck is a very talented player, has played on all the German youth NT sides, and has impressed for the most part when he's played. This season he was better overall than Ricardo Osorio, our more established rightback.

2. Beck never received enough opportunities in the first team, though he would have deserved them. After Veh replaced Trap, Beck played a handful of games that season and was solid on the whole, I even tipped at the time that he could be the 'next big thing'. Then he was injured at the start of last season and consequently played little to no part in the title year. And even this year it took way too long to give him a chance. Osorio was starting RB, and even once he was injured, Veh first tried out Hilbert at rightback, a very unnatural position for him, and even worse, Farnerud at leftback, where Beck can also play, before finally giving Beck a chance. Once he did give Beck an opportunity, he proved himself and has played quite often since. But the team did not give him the breakthrough opportunities he deserved, which probably played a big role in his wanting to leave.

3. By keeping him, we would've had a bright prospect at right back for our future, and I think there's a good chance he could have become the main starter ahead of Osorio this weekend(EDIT: season, not weekend. Duh). I saw him as another Hinkel, well, Hinkel from when he was with us. And our side is known to be one of the best in Germany, if not the best, for developing our young talents, so I don't understand why the side turns their back on this and loses one of our best defenders.

4. By offloading Beck, it means Osorio is our only natural rightback. Which means we now have to have a look in the transfer market for a new player and will have to get a good replacement as soon as possible. This wouldn't have been necessary, although I do admit if we get a very good replacement, say Arne Friedrich ( :) ) , then the entire transfer will not have been so poor anymore.

5. We sold to Hoffenheim. They're a side who will try and work their way up in the league with all the money they have, and I wouldn't be surprised to sell to them in the near future. But at this point, as a newly-promoted side, I'm mad that we are giving them a player who we by no means needed to sell.

6. In an interview last month, Heldt said that negotiations with Hoffenheim had ended and that Beck would definitely stay. So he was basically talking out his ass, which is annoying to me, and made it all the more disappointing once people found out that Beck would, contrary to what our own management said, leave.

7. They probably compromised with Hoffenheim, meaning they didn't even get their own preferred value for Beck. And considering we aren't in need of cash right now and didn't have to sell, I don't know why we'd have to settle on compromises with such a bright player.

But whatever, it's done now and we'll have to live with it. Let's just hope Heldt and co. can find a strong replacement.

In the meantime,
Viel Glueck Andy!
Viel Pech Hoffenheim!

Good news time :)

Manuel Fischer extends his contract to 2011

Well, the management kept their word on this one, which is awesome. A huge talent, as we've said many times before, it's great to hear we've now officially secured him for the long term.

From what I'm hearing these days, there's a very good chance of that happening.....

5. We sold to Hoffenheim. They're a side who will try and work their way up in the league with all the money they have, and I wouldn't be surprised to sell to them in the near future. But at this point, as a newly-promoted side, I'm mad that we are giving them a player who we by no means needed to sell.

You guys talk all this mess about all the money Hoffenheim has and nobody mentions the fact that they are NOT tearing up the transfer market. Hoffenheim's plan isn't to spend loads of money. They have a seriously structured, FOOTBALL BASED, plan they are sticking to.

Sure, the money helps and it definitely made the difference at the 2. Liga level, but with you talking about "all the money they have" don't you think they would have gone after someone more experienced and proven than Beck??

Don't you think they would have signed someone like Ivan Klasnic already??

The fact of the matter is, it is not imperative for Hoffenheim to remain in the 1. Liga this season. They won promotion two years before their plan called for it.

They are still trying to build from the ground up. Don't forget, their "B-Junioren" team did win the German Championship this season......

6. In an interview last month, Heldt said that negotiations with Hoffenheim had ended and that Beck would definitely stay. So he was basically talking out his ass, which is annoying to me, and made it all the more disappointing once people found out that Beck would, contrary to what our own management said, leave.

Maybe management THOUGHT they had Beck talked into staying. Maybe Beck told them he'd stay, but then got an offer from Hoffenheim he couldn't refuse.

I don't think you know enough about what happened to say Heldt was "basically talking out his ass."

Perhaps the player changed his mind.

7. They probably compromised with Hoffenheim, meaning they didn't even get their own preferred value for Beck. And considering we aren't in need of cash right now and didn't have to sell, I don't know why we'd have to settle on compromises with such a bright player.

Because no matter how "bright" you think he is, he can be replaced and they don't need to keep a player who doesn't want to be there.

But whatever, it's done now and we'll have to live with it. Let's just hope Heldt and co. can find a strong replacement.

This sentence should have eliminated the majority of the message.

In the meantime,
Viel Glueck Andy!
Viel Pech Hoffenheim!

From very classy to very childish all in two lines......

Again, how do you know Beck didn't demand to leave?
