I wouldn't be that happy about it because he still wanted to go didn't he? It was the management that stopped him.
Gomez has never uttered a word publicly on this. All you heard that from was the media and the Bayern fans here (not all of them) who think everyone wants to join them.
Gomez' agent only ever confirmed Bayern's interest. Neither of them ever said Gomez wants to go to Bayern.

Weren't some people on here like vfbstuttgarfan behaving as if gomez was sure to go though?
I didn't get the impression that things had only happened at the management level in this deal.

I certainly was, after Bayern and VfB confirmed they would meet up to discuss Gomez it sounded as if he was going to move there for sure. Also, reports in Bild, Stuttgarter Zeitung, Stuttgarter Nachrichten and Kicker all seemed to point towards Gomez making the move. So i'm really surprised things turned around.
BUT of course nothing's settled yet, i'm pretty sure Bayern will be making more attempts to get him once the Euros are over.

so you think that if the management allowed it, gomez would say yes to the move?

Of course.
There's a full-page interview with Gomez in today's "kicker", in it, he was asked if the discussion of a Bayern transfer affected his play, and he said, "Why should it? I had nothing to do with the discussion."
He was asked if he accepts VfB's decision not to negotiate with Bayern and he said, "I have a contract with Stuttgart and will happily fulfill it."
He was told Bayern will keep coming after you. What then? He said, "I am honored by Bayern's interest just as I was last year by Juventus' interest.
He was asked if there was any pre-contract with Bayern and he said "There was no pre-contract and no acceptance of any move to Bayern. Bayern spoke with VfB and that was it. There was nothing from my side of this."
(This is exactly what I told you guys in my last message. Gomez had not uttered a word, this was all Bayern and the freakin' pro-Bayern German media's doing.)
What pisses me off about this supposedly "unbiased" "kicker" interview is that they keep hammering on him about Bayern when it is clear this is not going to happen.
Two of the last questions they ask him are:
"After Euro 2008, where will you take your first training session, in Stuttgart or Munich?"
Gomez replies, "No one knows that for certain. However, when Mr. Hundt (Vfb's Chairman of the Board) demands a three-figure sum, it will be hard for me to find a new club.
"For you, does that mean if you don't go to Bayern in 2008, then in 2009?"
Gomez replies, "I really don't know what the future will bring. I want to first become a European Champion."
Gomez is very diplomatic here. He makes it clear that he's' open to a move and not just to Bayern. He also makes it clear he will be very happy to remain in Stuttgart. He seems to be a young man with his head on straight.
Right now, I think he'll stay in Stuttgart another season, but if Barcelona sells Samuel Eto'o, I think all bets are off.

There's something ironic about that after his performances! ;)
Thanks for the interview though.

That was only parts of the interview. There's a lot more to it.

Intertoto First Round - First Leg Match-up
Etzella Ettelbrück (Luxemborg) – Lokomotive Tiflis (Georgia) 0-0
The winner of this match-up will face Russia’s Saturn Ramenskoje in the next round. The winner of that match-up will face VfB in the 3rd round.
Second leg of the first round match-ups are this coming weekend 28 and 29 June.

I'm assuming we'll be facing the Russian side, regardless of how this round pans out. They should, on paper, be the strongest of our potential opposition.

If things always panned out the way they are on paper, Bayern would win the Bundesliga every season, not just nearly every season! LOL!! ;)

According to this "Bild" report (http://www.bild.de/BILD/sport/fussball/bundesliga/vereine/stuttgart/2008/06/25/schaefer-mit-nuernberg-einig/torwart-zurueck-zu-seinem-ex-klub,geo=4942892.html) Rafael Schäfer is on the verge of a move back to FCN.
The article says the clubs have agreed on a transfer fee and Schäfer will sign a 3 year deal with FCN in the next day or two.
We'll see if that's true. I'm always skeptical about "Bild" reports, but I think this one is most likely true.

It sounds plausible, and in my opinion would be the best move for both parties.
It's been discussed a thousand times already, but with Mad Jens as our number 1 and Ulreich as our up-and-coming sub, there's absolutely no need to keep Schaefer, not to mention that I couldn't see him ever make it here in any way after that disastrous first year.
Schaefer was a truly terrible transfer, but I think FCN is one place where he could return to form.

Yeah. He fooled the hell out of me. I thought Schaefer would take the next step toward the top at Stuttgart.
Instead, thanks to his "nerves", he crapped all over the place.
Don't think I've ever been more wrong on a player. :(

Confirmed now that Schaefer is gone. So that's one major issue settled.
And the non-NT players started training today :)

SkySports.com: Wenger Says Adebayor Not Going Anywhere (http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12876_3751354,00.html)
Why have I posted this here? Because it might affect VfB.
If Barcelona cannot get Adebayor, and there is no reason to believe Wenger is bluffing here, Barcelona may just turn toward Gomez.
Stay tuned.......
