Dude, did you see the Gomez/Bayern rumors started by tz over at the Bayern forum??

I've heard about it, but I just don't see it coming.

First of all, what is Bayern supposed to do with yet another striker? Toni, Klose, Poldi AND Gomez? Doesn't make sense.

Secondly, I don't think Stuttgart will sell Gomez to Bayern. If he's allowed to leave, then only to a foreign team. We wouldn't strengthen a direct competitor at our own expense.

Not only those things, but Gomez would be stupid to be making decisions about his next career move so early and during the tournament.

Believe me, I know it is BS, but some of the Bayern guys (and I know they are reading this, but this isn't anything I haven't said on their thread) want it to be true so badly that they will think of any scenario that could make it so.....

No way is Gomez moving to Bayern!

He's either staying at Stuttgart for one more year, which seems ever-more unlikely, or he's gonna move abroad to one of the top European leagues. But he won't change clubs within Germany, especially not to Bayern. I just can't see Mario doing something like that.

And the Bayern 'fans' can dream all they want and pretend they have the ability to buy whatever German player they feel like mentioning in their transfer speculation threads, but that doesn't change the fact that such a move is highly unlikey.

Gomez has always been an honourable player, and I think he understands that a move to Bayern would simply be an absolute 'no go'.

So let the Bayern fans dream, hell if Gomez wasn't in Stuttgart i'd dream of the best German striker playing for my side as well, but such dreams won't change reality, and in my opinion reality is that Gomez simply won't move to Bayern.

I agree with all of that. I think the thing that gives them hope is that is what everyone said about Klose too.

Trust me, I agree with you, but now that I've thought about it more, I think that is why some of them even have hope.

I think the guys who can look past their biases like FR and DI know that the rumor is bullshit.

But the others were all over it this morning. LOL!!

I think DI was suggesting that they would get Gomez and sell Podolski.

Ain't happenin' ;)

forgive the intrusion and i understand the thinking behind why Gomez wouldn't move to Bayern but the last post got me thinking this,

would Stuttgart, and the fans of Stuttgart, be more agreeable towards a deal if it included cash + Podolski for Gomez?

i realise that's just pure speculation but i was wondering what Vfbstuttgartfan and the other Stuttgart fans would say to that.

No, simply out of the question! I don't think VfB fans would agree to a move to Bayern regardless of the money or Podolski! I wouldn't mind if we get Podolski, but if Gomez wants to move, another league would be the best option! :D

How about we sell Gomez to Barca for huge money, and then we can use that to bring in Podolski and maybe some other pieces to strengthen our side?

That is assuming Bayern will sell Podolski. They aren't going to sell him to you if they don't get someone like Mutu or Gomez.

Bayern didn't get where they are by being stupid.

i dont see Podolki on our team...but i could see us buying one or 2 young players building for the Future and 1or 2 25-27 year olds to Strenghten our side.

An interesting interview with Heldt in Kicker today in which they covered a lot of VfB's summer issues.

http://www.kicker.de/news/fussball/bundesliga/startseite/artikel/207019/

Translated:

Kicker: How close is the present side to being the team for the next season?
Heldt: There's still some work to do.

Kicker: Could you be more precise?
Heldt: We still expect one or two players to leave the side, and will of course be looking for alternatives to these players.

Kicker: Is VfB already searching for another Mario Gomez?
Heldt: Well, we don't want him to leave.

Kicker: Bayern supposedly wants him, as does Barcelona. How disconcerting is this news for you?
Heldt: Accoring to some or other reports, he's roughly agreed terms or has already signed with every single top team in all of Europe. I don't orientate myself around such reports, but instead around facts. He has a contract with us until 2012.

Kicker: What do you know about Bayern's interest?
Heldt: I'm VfB's manager. Therefore, I can't tell you what FC Bayern's management is planning.

Kicker: Gomez's agent, Ferber, has strongly denied any links to Bayern. Is this, as far as you know, hiding something?
Heldt: We've got a close relationship with Uli Ferber. But not only because of Mario, but also, because we're currently in talks over a contract extension for Manuel Fischer.

Kicker: That should've been done with long ago.
Heldt: We are still right on time. I believe that we will reach an agreement in the near future.

Kicker: With Jens Lehmann's purchase, is the problem position in the goal now solved?
Heldt: Absolutely. Jens was very solid against Poland, caught some good balls and lead the side. And this he did in a tough situation, where everyone was talking about a lack of match-experience this season and was therefore keeping a close eye on Jens.

Kicker: The other side of the Goalkeeper-discussion is Raphael Schaefer. What happens if he can't find himself a new team? Will he be aloud to train with the side?
Heldt: We're trying to find a solution with and for him. He has a contract with us, and there's no reason why we should force him out the side.

Kicker: da Silva and Farnerud are in the shop window. Have there been any new developments concerning them?
Heldt: Not with Farnerud. Toni da Silva and us are currently in negotiations with Karlsruhe and three other sides. At the moment, it seems as if the entire situation is working towards Karlsruhe, but we can't count out other possibilities.

Hoffenheim want Andreas Beck. Anything new there?
Heldt: There have been negotiations between the two sides. We've got alternative opinions, and have decided, that there won't be any further talks. We didn't plan to let go of Andi. There was simply an offer, that we looked into. Now we're going to forget about the thing and do, what we actually had originally planned. We now want to continue and make progress on the contract prolongation talks that already took place in the winter.

Kicker: Is it possible that Christian Gentner will already return from Wolfsburg this season?
Heldt: We loaned him to Wolfsburg for two years. Naturally, we will stay loyal to the contract. When VfL, after their failed attempt to buy him, decide, to give the player back immediately, then we will talk about the possibilities.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, they seemed to talk more about possible departures than acquisitions. Here's the situation with the players then:

With Gomez: Heldt seems unsure about what exactly will happen to him and whether he'll stay. I'm slightly dissappointed/nervous that he didn't flatly reject the possibility of ScheissBayern going for him.
With da Silva: Seems almost certain that he'll move. Hopefully it won't be to Karlsruhe.
With Farnerud: Wants him to go, but unsurprisingly after two horrendous seasons no one seems to want him.
With Schaefer: They won't force him out, hopefully Schaefer finds a club by himself. I still don't see a future for him at VfB.

With Fischer: I certainly hope a new contract gets signed soon.
With Beck: It now seems pretty sure he'll stay after all, and hopefully get a new contract. That's good news. :)
With Gentner: It seems he'll definitely come back after next season at the latest, and there's still a tiny, though in my opinion unlikely, chance that he could return this summer. This is also good news. :)

In other news on our EM players:

Marica missed Romania's opening 0-0 draw with France due to a minor injury, but he's not back with the squad.

Fernando Meira was subbed in for the last 15 minutes in Portugal's 3-1 win over the Czech Republic and did a good job marking Koller.

Magnin played the full 90 minutes in Switzerland's game and was, unfortunately, absolutely terrible. And Switzerland/Ludo are now out :(

I think he didn't want to rock the boat with the Gomez camp. That comes before allaying any fears the fans might have. I think it's smart of him not to address anything about Bayern until he has to.

With da Silva: Seems almost certain that he'll move. Hopefully it won't be to Karlsruhe.

Any idea who the other teams are? Apparently Klopp wants another player who can play central midfield in Dortmund to battle Hajnal and Sahin for the position.

With Schaefer: They won't force him out, hopefully Schaefer finds a club by himself. I still don't see a future for him at VfB.

He won't go anywhere. He won't get paid the way he will in Stuttgart to sit on his ass and backup the Germany #1.

Dude, I saw Jens Lehmann have the worst season any goalkeeper ever had back in 1999-2000. I thought he was trying to play his way out of Dortmund. But BVB and more importantly, Germany stuck with him and we got a great keeper out of it.

I can't say Schaefer will turn into what Lehmann did, but I do think just writing him off after one bad season could be a mistake.

Great report! Thanks a lot! :)

It told me I had to spread more rep....... :(

Well, in my opinion he was the worst player on the field yesterday.

And usually he's an absolute 'Leistungs-traeger' for Switzerland, which made his performance yesterday even more dissappointing. I'm sad their out though, I think Switzerland lost two games that could've ended up entirely differently on another day, and in which they had all the chances to win. But that's just how football goes sometimes.

It is how up-and-coming teams learn. They suffer heart-breakers like that. I think Hitzfeld will be able to draw on this experience and take them to the next level.
