Well, Schaefer more than fulfilled the tragic comedy role. Mad Jens could be a vote of confidence our defence needs.

His experience can be very valuable
and the young keepers can learn a lot from him.
Good signing, congrats.

And? It wasn't a surprise to anyone. We all knew it was coming.

I think he'll be very good for you guys. The only downside is that its not a long term signing.

For now. I think both sides will want to see how next season works out.

In football news, VfB II drew the Stuttgart derby 1-1 away to the Kickers. VfB II, despite having lost practically all its best performers to the A-team, continues to have a solid season in the Regionalliga while the Kickers will now need to win their last game and hope Reutlingen don't in order to qualify for the 3. Bundesliga.
Well, VfB II finished the league last season in 3rd place, capping off another year in which they proved that, despite half the starting side moving to the A team during the season, they remained once again the best-performing II. side in all of Germany. Hats off to Rainer Adrion and the boys!
Also, Kickers did win their last game and had other results go their way, so, by the skin of their teeth, they managed to qualify for next year's 3. Liga. Whether that's something to be pleased about, or something to be irritated about, I can't decide.

LOL!!
I can get that!
However, I think those derbies are fun for both sets of fans, are they not?? ;)

Yeah, I guess it's nice that the VfB II - Kickers derbies can continue, and it's nice for the city of Stuttgart I guess to have a second club who's also in the top 3 leagues. So on the whole it's a good thing I guess, but we'll see.

I have never particularly liked Lehmann as a person and he is not the player he used to be. Can't get terribly excited about this one, but most anything is an improvement at this point ;).

Since Heldt obviously must have read my post (;)), I have another suggestion: Get rid of Bastürk and sign Deco, who's on the market.
...just saying...:D
Maybe they will him throw into an offer for Gomez, not that I want to see Super Mario leave. Deco and 25 million or you get nothing! Arrrrggggghhhh. I'm trying to joke around, but I can't even bear to think about this!

Thursday's "Kicker" also reports that you guys will welcome Jens' ex-club Arsenal to Stuttgart for a friendly on 30 July at 7PM.
However, they also report that the friendly has nothing to do with the Lehmann deal.

Yeah, that friendly has been organised for a couple of weeks already, they announced it on the last Spieltag :)

Magnin lost in Switzerland's first Euro game :(
He fought hard, unfortunately I think he was a little suspect on the Czech goal, he was too late to react against his man, who scored. Interesting that Sverkos, a player who was a failue in the Bundsliga imo, scored the first goal of such a major tournament.
Interestingly enough, in Benaglio, Streller and Yakin there were 3 other Swiss players who once played for Stuttgart. Benaglio is now a better keeper than anyone we've had in the past season, Streller is still crap, but also still sympathetic :p

I thought Magnin was the best player on the pitch along maybe with Cech.
Shame that they lost though, they were the better team and deserved to win for all their efforts.

More news about our players at the EM:
Meira got a run out in the 92nd minute in Portugal's 2-0 opening win over Turkey.
Gomez started for Germany, missed a big chance but played an excellent part in setting up one of the goals and played well overall, receiving a 3 from Kicker. He was subbed out for Hitz, who did alright in the last 15 minutes.
Lehmann also played the full game, had a shaky moment at the start, but was strong after that and didn't really have to worry too much as Poland created no dangerous chances. He got a 3.5.
