View Full Version : Who thinks Moreno should have retired

The speed at which he had to have a sub come in (14 minutes) shows that he is not the same guy as before. The main question is should he have retired and let DC get another guy in his place as the starting forward. Niell looks good, but not like a starting forward. I would have loved to see him come back and played most of the season, but he gets injured in the first game and has to get taken out...it makes me wonder if its going to be the whole season that this happens. Just because he is a legend at DC does not mean that we absolutely need him anymore.

It's a good thing it's not pre-1928.
Back then, if a player came up lame in the first 14 minutes of the season, they shot him.
FIFA changed the rule after a whole team got injured defending a corner kick in a league game in Karjackhistan and, well, you can imagine the uproar.
I mean, because clearly, tweaking a hamstring in the very first game of the season must mean that his entire career is over. Surely.

He pulled a hamstring for cripes sake - step off the freaking ledge! And did you not notice that similar to the end of last season, without Moreno on the field our forwards were not able to hold the ball at ALL!
I told myself to avoid BigSoccer this morning - why oh why didn't I listen!

He is a solid player and a leader on the field.

No, it shows he had a little problem with his hamstring in the 12th minute or so.
Yes, but did you see the way he walked off of the field? Like an old man.
Just kidding, of course.

Right.
It's still early yet, and some people are just getting to work, but I'm still waiting for the nheoS eriF thread.

If by "before," you mean "a few minutes before, when he didn't have a pulled hammy," then I agree.
Look, everyone (including Jaime) knows he is "not the same guy as before." That's not the question. The question is whether he's adapted to that reality such that he's still an asset to the team on the pitch. There's no question that at some point, the answer to that question will be "no" -- it happens to everyone. But I don't know how you can make the case that that time has already come and gone based on him getting injured early in a match.

I am with you guy with a bunch of random letters and numbers as a handle.
I caught hell for even suggesting the club ask Jamie to hang up the boots and become a member of the organization behind the scenes. I foresee a very difficult season for Jamie. The fact our other forwards are questionable makes me convinced using Jamie's salary on a younger talented striker would have been a smarter move.
I disagree about Neill though, they guy looks like midget. Watching him try to get on some high balls was embarassing. In a physical league like MLS i think he is gonna have a really rough go of it. He gets points for trying hard but his size is gonna be a massive hinderance.
Also, why is everyone praising the new DP? I thought he was pretty average out there. The team had no rythem and he never looked like he wanted to lay it all out ala Gomez style. I already miss Chrsitian and his heart.
We looked bad out there. Is this the great new DC United everyone has been talking about all offseason? The only possitive last night was the two new centerbacks looked seady and Wells looks like a good replacement for Perkins.

You're the only one here that is stupid, you pulled the same shit on me when i suggested the same thing. How about you post something constructive instead of a bunch of crap for once.
I am sick of having to defend myself to a bucnh of dudes that think they are the smartest because they post here longer.

Whether or not Moreno should have retired is a legitimate debate but his pulling a hamstring is a silly reason for bringing it up.

I'm sick of people who don't understand soccer trying to tell me that Moreno brings nothing to DC United's attack.
Not to worry, there's plenty of room on the short bus for you too.

When is the last time you ever saw Chelsea play him as a forward. He plays as a winger where his size is not as much of an issue. But you post herelonger so you must know better, next time i watch Chelsea i'll be waiting for Grant to take out Drogba for Phillips up top.

So, you're the smartest, even though you insist on calling him "Jamie" ?
That makes sense.
