This is not good news especially with the losses of Convey, Quaranta and Barclay. I was worried when I saw Petke's reaction when he got hurt against Colorado. [ring-ring] Hello Richmond[/ring-ring].

Hudson w/ a "very sore jaw" that required medical attention.

Was it Hristo or Marco who smacked him? :)

Anybody know when Tino comes back? Figure he will slot wide, where Earnie should be playing. Alecko for Hristo when he fades. Tino could also move up top.

Goff reports that Earnie has hurt his left big toe.

This is all pretty grim.

All I've got say is get better soon Eliseo and Mike. We need more players who in a close match on an injured leg will run the length of the pitch to make a defensive stop. You sold me, Eliseo. Get better soon.

Time for everyone to pull their weight. This is the final stretch. Chino, Q1 will have to step in. Ivanov to step up (he did well as a sub last match against Colorado).

Any word on Milton Reyes? I saw him kicking the ball around during warmups before the Revs home game last Saturday. Is he close to being ready?

I think all that yelling and teeth gnashing has finally caught up with him.

What a test this will be on Saturday. Dema is going to have to have a huge game, but in all likelihood, Chino will have to have the game of his life. Maybe the time he's had on the bench will help him to rise to the ocassion.

Must really suck for Q2 and I'm sure Petke's annoyed.

Well this creates a small problem. While Chicago doesn't have Bocanegra, this should allow Eskie to start (he won't get crushed) The Kicker?

Start: Eskie, Curtis and Stewart.

W/ Eskie and Stewart up top and Curtis on the Left Wing.

Nelsen has to join the back four once again. Olsen on the Right. Matching Beasely, Kovalenko holding the midfield, and Etch in the usual Hole.

If this were an Open Cup match I'd say give Stokes a chance. But it ain't.

This really sucks. If Petke is out 4-6 weeks he'll also need a lot of conditioning once he comes back. Does any one know how close Milton Reyes is to being able to play in a game?

With Q1 and Q2 out, and Stewart "really struggling" with his toe, it looks like we chose a bad week to sell Bobby Convey. The only good news is that after Saturday's game in Chicago we'll have 2 weeks off.

I wish this were true, but it's 8 days off - we're away to San Jose on Sunday, 8/24.

Fortunately or unfortunately, we didn't get to "choose" whether to sell Bobby or not. MLS did that for us. They did it to NY/NJ too, with Howard, but as it worked out there, by the time Howard left Walker was available. Looks like we're just screwed.

Damn! I looked at the the little wallet-sized 2003 pocket schedule. Now I realize that they combined Aug 24 and Aug 31 into one little square on the calendar.

Ignatz, I know DC really didn't choose this week to sell Convey. I guess what I really meant to say was that I chose a bad week to quit sniffing glue...

Hey, at least we're not Dallas. Last place by a bunch of points, on a big winless streak, not much hope for improvement, and then they lose their star striker for the rest of the season to an ACL injury.

Wait, "star striker"... we had one of those once. Didn't we? :)

I saw Milton at the USOC match against VBM and asked him about it. Milton said that he was looking at Sept.

From the article: "Mike Petke was seen by Dr. Chris Annunziata today and has been diagnosed with a fractured right talus."

For us non-medically savvy folks, what's a talus? Is that some kind of bone in the foot or ankle or something? Anyone?

I think it's the singular of Talon. :p
