Thank you for the clip, @ Gaucho95! Did you see the header from Rob in the first half, when he missed the empty net? ;)

Yes, but the pass was a bit high. Had it been just a little lower, I am sure Rob would have finished it :)

Is there any chance that Friend will be sold to another team this year? Is there a transfer deadline? Btw, I hope he stays with the current team.

The transfer window is closed until the off season (summer). That being said, I expect Toronto FC to make a run at him, though I doubt MLS can afford him now given his success with BMG. I would not be surprised if he also gets a call up for the Olympics this summer from Canada, should they qualify. They are in the final four teams in CONCACAF and two of those will go to Beijing. Surprisingly, Mexico is *not* among the 4.

Are you kidding? He won't even be sold during the next years ... at least as long as his contract in MG runs. Why should we sell him? We are a financially healthy club and don't need selling any players!

Me too. :D

Although I consider myself pretty ignorant of European club soccer and even moreso of how the transfer system works, I thought the BMG coach was quoted recently that Friend was being scouted by top division teams.

Also, this is Friend's 4th professional team in 5 years, so he has been sold a lot already, and I wanted to see how likely it would be for him to be sold again. Every player has a price, no?

There is ABSOLUTELY no way that Friend would opt for Toronto FC. Ten years from now, perhaps.

I agree, there is no way he would go to TFC in the near future... I'm not that ignorant :)

I was thinking that a top division club in Germany or England might try to lure him away. I know BMG would like to keep him, but like I said, every player has a price at which he would be sold.

I also realize that BMG is not your typical Div 2 club... hell, they are probably in the upper half of the top division clubs in terms of several criteria including stadium, history, management, fan base, etc. I would see a transfer as unlikely and have discovered that it would be impossible until the summer.

Can you show me the link to this quotation?

And in the case he should be scouted: WHO CARES???

We wouldn't even have sold Marcell Jansen if we weren't relegated last season and got a very good offer from Bayern for him.

Well, if a club offers about € 12 millions for Friend as well ... we might start thinking about selling him. ;) But how I told you before, there's no need & no intention for a transfer ... and I also think that Rob feels pretty good in Mönchengladbach!

My German is rusty and probably at about the 1st grade level, but here is the quote that gave me that impression:

"Er ist auch für die 1. Liga gescoutet worden", erklärt Luhukay und vergleicht seinen Riesen mit Jan Koller.

Luhukay said: "He was scouted for the 1. Bundesliga".

Bad news concerning Van den Bergh. Just a few days after the recovery from injury, he suffered a setback ... and will be out again for a few weeks. :(

NO-FEAR,that is one thing BORUSSIA does best...mature and condition young players and later on gift-wrap them and hand them over to rich clubs..so its not a shocker my friend, sad but no shocker:(

Sorry, hit the quote button on the wrong post. I think Rob F will stay with BMG into the Bundesliga 1. Being a key player on a successful team has a lot of attraction.

Christian Ziege must be spending time reading this thread and saw my post. He calls Friend "unbuyable"... at least that's what I think he said :)

I originally had "unsellable", but I edited it to "unbuyable". I think unsellable is the more literal translation, but "unbuyable" makes more sense given the context.
