No International Championships, eh? Bummer.
What happened? (Or is that not public information?)

It was reasons beyond the Fusion's control that had them bow out of the International Championships.

It is with great regret that I must say; there will not be an NPSL season for the SoCal (San Diego) Fusion. While the Fusion will still play outdoor tournaments and events as well as indoors with the PASL, at this point it is unclear whether they will move on to another league or rejoin the NPSL next season. What is clear is that a portion of the owners/managment have moved on to SD United; who will compete in the NPSL this season.

I was wondering where the mens SD United team would come from and now it makes sense. First the Hotsuprs youth soccer and now the SoCal Fusion... SD United has caused some headaches.

I did notice from their website that SD United is largely staffed by former Hotspurs and Fusion personnel...do you know more of the story there?
Did those folks defect from the other clubs and form the new club SD United, or did SD United start first and poach them away from their old posts?
I know in the case of a lot of the Hotspurs coaches, they had been with the club for a long time...just wondering what prompted the mass exodus.

From SD United Thread...
Since the Fusion are no more...I suppose we should have a new thread for the new SD United.
I didn't catch your wording the first time I read this.
No, the Fusion are still alive and well. They just aren't competeing in the NPSL this season. They may very well be back next, so please don't give up on them.

If they are back in the NPSL next year would they replace SD United, or would they co-exist? It would be nice to have a couple of teams in SD. I don't know what's going on with the Pumitas, but they rejoined, we'd almost have our own little conference out here. I could see the other SW teams not being happy about all the travel out to SD though...could get expensive.

Yes, they would coexist. Maybe they would be able to move them into the NW by then (assuming the SW gets a few more teams).

all the fusion players are the SD united. They just changed named. Why do I assume that? all had their training gear with the fusion logo.
No they didn't just change names. The owners of the Fusion split. Half joined forces with SD United (who were mainly a select club for youths) and had just purchased a WPSL franchise. So, in short, SD United is an expansion franchise.
As for the players, I found out they switched over to SD United as they still wanted to play in the NPSL. Those that also played on the Fusion PASL (indoor) team will still be playing for the Fusion in the winter. So the Fusion still exist even though they are unable to participte this season in the NPSL.
