I have checked out what old threads I could, and have done some searches but would like to ask for a little help. For a first time attender for a DCU game where you would suggest sitting? Not a new fan to soccer or MLS, but first time I will stumble myself down to DC from Baltimore after years of saying I will!

I see there are a number of different fan groups, I would certainly prefer more fan than suburb soccer mom. My wife may come also, but she should be game for just about anything also. Well, except for behind a bunch of flags as she is fairly short and I'm not sure I want to listen to that all the way home from the Metro :) Any other tidbits you veterans have for a newbie?

Thanks,
Tim

Would it be crass to suggest that you think about taking my two extra VIP section tickets off my hands? Great deal, and you'd be sitting in the jewelry-rattling section. You can see all the supporters' activities - flags, banners, etc., but have a much better view of the game.

See my thread on the tix if you're interested.

Good to see a fellow Baltimorean making the trek. My suggestion - if you can get tickets with the Eagles in section 132. You will be part of the atmosphere but won't have to worry about your wife being able to see. My wife is also short but didn't have much of a problem last year. The closer you get to 135 the more difficulty you will have with the flags - by the time you get over to 132 the angle is such that it is not much of a problem.

Matt - I interpretted opening day as not Harbour View but rather Toronto.

Couple of other tips:

- Come early - take in all the tailgates
- Do NOT eat in the stadium
- Scream yourself hoarse

If you and your wife don't want to stand, I'd suggest from 204 to 210 or 211, or the lower reaches of 304 to 310. The sight lines in the high rows in the 300 sections content with the upper deck overhang, which cuts out the jumbotron and any view of the trajectory of sky-balls...:D

The 104 to 110 seats have a flatter rise and thus a lower view of the field. The very low rows there can have views blocked by weather-protection shields over the benches and the TV camera at mid-field.

If you want to stand and be part of non-stop fan action (recommended), then go with the Screaming Eagles or La Barra Brava. And if you want to be close to them but not part of, watch out for the 200 sections above both groups...you'll be standing there also to see over them, but won't have nearly as much fun.

my wife is 5'3 and had quite a bit of trouble seeing the field from 133 (row 7). she still would have a great time, drinking before hand, and singing at the match. didn't tell me until after the season that she missed 75% of the action.

im brain storming this season trying to think of ways to make her taller. . .

anybody think i could get this (http://www.amazon.com/E-Z-Foldz-Step-Stool/dp/B0007TR57U/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2?ie=UTF8&s=sporting-goods&qid=1205255328&sr=8-2) into the stadium (maybe tell them it is a seat back?)

that being said, there is nothing better than standing/singing with one of the supporters groups and it is highly recommended. maybe sit across from us the first game, then with us the second (taking in the tailgate both times).

Gotta love a lively board! Answers already! Thank you.

So it appears that if I want to give those Screaming Eagle sections a try, I have to purchase through the group right? My major concern is my wife, coming in at 5' on a good day, but I'm sure she would still have fun even if she cannot see that well. For the first time, I think I would have to lean towards 132 so as to take it all in and not look funny and out of place until I can figure it all out. And i can hit the tailgate tent as a non-member and pay more? Is that right?

So you Baltimore folks, metro in or drive?

I'm sure you'll get answers here. If not, send an email to tailgates@screaming-eagles.com

BTW, figuring it all out doesn't mean you won't look funny. Just sayin'...

I'm not sure if this is on the 'banned things in RFK' list or not....

I personally drive in. To me it is a pretty easy drive and for the most part you won't run into too much trouble getting in or out. I would fathom a guess that driving takes less time than taking Metro - also for me it gave me a place to stash the grilling clothes so I didn't smell like meat the whole game (although Sundevil9 might disagree with that statement).

Shoot Nicole an e-mail at tickets@screaming-eagles.com and she can help you out. Far better than going through Ticketmaster.

It is the most interesting combination of raw and cooked meat and meatless products, smoke, and Guinness......and that's from several seats away! :D

we drive in from laurel, down 295. easy in, easy out, easy parking. just have to be sure to give enough time to sober up (liver chews up one drink per hour) from the tailgate.

thanks for the suggestions guys. the periscope was a nice touch (in red no less). i'll run it by my wife (how awesome would it be if we showed up with that thing).

The smoke has dissipated for the most part by the time it reaches 132. I can't really remember it ever being a problem.
