Love the quote from the Everton coach:

"...He needs to come to a club in England to expand his development, possibly us."

The owner where I work is also a football coach and we banter back and forth with the usual "soccer-f**" and "helmet-ball" jokes. By the end of the game, there was a group of guys cheering for the hattrick and my boss was holding forth knowledgably on Adu's future possibilities and talent. I never realized he was a closeted soccer-f** too!! He's been outed.

Adu is already better than Wayne Rooney.

After watching the game at Summer's tonight, all I can say is wow. If we're lucky enough to have Freddy at all, it will be good times at United.

Somewhat on the side, had a great time at dinner with Bison, Sachin, Lanky and the other people at our table who's Bigsoccer names I can't remember.

Adu was long ago declared on topic here. ;)

We beat Korea U17. That is nice. However, Asian teams usually don't do well at this level, so let's not get ahead of ourselves. Once Adu scores 1 or 2 against an African or a South American team then Europe's top scouts will take him away from MLS.

So perhaps we want him to fail so that he can start his career with DCU? just kidding...

One more thing. FIFA will do bone tests on African players at the U17 WC to confirm their real age. Is there any chance they can do the same with Adu? People are talking, you know?

I think a 14 year old wonderkin from the DC area who is being eyeballed by the biggest clubs in the world and who has an open invitation to practice with DCU is relevant enough!

S. Korea did beat the U-17 a couple months ago 3-0, so certainly a good turn around.

Also in the online chat yesterday on the Wash Post website they stated that FIFA had investigated Adu and found no evidence that suggested he was anything but 14.

He was being sarcastic. It's a running joke between miniLB and the rest of the LFC supporters at Summers.

Good seeing you, too, Thamlin.

Note that The Post cared enought to send a reporter rather than relying on Reuters or AP feeds. Someone posted elsewhere that the writer regularly covers the Caps for The Post. Nice that they're extending their soccer coverage resources.

Since Adu translates into "Future DC United Forward Freddie Adu"? ;)

Although this is an interesting nugget from Soccer 365 match report:

http://www.soccer365.com/US_NEWS/National_Teams/page_91_56194.shtml

"Adu's hat trick marked just the second in the team's U-17 World Championship history, equaling a mark set by Judah Cook 10 years ago in Japan in the victory against Qatar."

How quickly one can fall from U-17 fame to DCU/MLS flameout

And whoever said Korea was just an Asian team, have you seen who they have beaten? They beat Cameroon 3-0 before the tourney and went about a year undefeated against Asian and European competition. If I'm right, their star striker is in PSV's youth program. Not to mention they beat us 3-0 a little while back. Watch them against Spain. They'll be out for blood and I wouldn't be surprised if they win their next two games!

Please stop with this.

Even IF..he happened to be 16 he is 1) still fantastic for he age;
2) still legal for this tournament;
3) It's not like he's trying to be a starting pitcher in the little league world series, so what is the benefit to him or his mother lying about his age? Based on all the other discussions about him going to Europe for better "development", you'd think there would be those who want him to be closer to 18.
