Anyone? Any of you NC-dwelling DCU fans?

How long does it take to drive there?

Great place to visit. I was once told Wilmington has everything places with money have - except the money. Suspect that's changing.

Well, if by everything you mean skanky, windowless titty bars, pawn shops, and tattoo parlors, then sure. Oh and the place is full of redneck jarheads too ;-)
If I'm still unemployed I'm there .... if not then I can't swing two days off. If I rememebr correctly from my old days of driving there from NoVa, it is about 6 hours or so, so I wouldn't reccommend a one-day round-trip unless you are like 20 or hooked on crystal meth ;-)

Wilmington, NC is about a six hour drive from DC. My sister and her husband live there. We were just there the first weekend of August for their wedding.

It's a really nice small town.

My family vacations in near by Topsail Island every year. My son and I have been to a Hammerheads game every year for the past five years. We watched the Hammerheads beat the Atlanta Silverbacks in July. Great match, they came back after being down a goal to win 2-1.

The stadium looks to be an old (american) football field so it is a bit narrow, but the crowds have always been enthusiastic and appear to be pretty sophisiticated. No plastic horns and good amenities. Bud, Bud Light and Red Hook (I think) is available.

A great experience. The beaches there are nice, too. One could leave DC at about 11:00 am and be there for game time. Find a hotel on the beach and make a long weekend of it.

The Web site is here:

Should be fun. No way can we be there.

To be fair, my experiences are a bit away from there closer to Parris Island ;-)
If you want NASCAR (and who doesn't), it will be on during any sports segment of the local news, as it should be.
Speaking of DCU and NC, I read this today in my NASCAR newsletter:
Ray Hudson, a shop fabricator at Petty Enterprises, hiked the entire 2,172-mile Appalachian Trail starting in Springer Mountain, GA on March 1.. Hudson finished his hike on July 21, 143 days since he began..On August 11th at 4:00 pm Ray attended a huge welcome home bash and celebrated his very own Ray Hudson Day. The town of Randleman generously named August 11th Ray Hudson Day..

heeheehee - I had just read 153 posts in the post-match thread and thought I was reading about United again when I saw his name! Damn, you'd think he'd look better in shorts on the sideline after that hike!

I wish I could go. That's the week of our big rollout at work.

I volunteer to be official cargo (beer) monitor in the flatbed.

ok i called the hammerheads and we can get the group discount (usually reserved for youth teams) if we get 25 people to go. the tickets then would be $15 if not $20.

i know some dcu staffers want to go as well. i will contact gocaps and see if any eagles want to go.

I think some SEs do want to go. Are we car-pooling, renting a van, can we squeeze some people on the DCU bus (could DCU just do a free bus, heck if the SEs can a freebie to NJ why can't United cough up here?) I'm swamped at work today so cannot make any follow up calls (I can next week). If some other folks want to get the ball rolling, great and I can put out any info to the SEs to see who wants to go.

i think how we get there--car pool, etc. will be determined by the numbers we have. if we get several people a van may work, if not a caravan. my guess is we don't get enough bodies for a bus.

if anyone wants to go, let me know at robertg@activedesigns.com

and i'll build a list, once we get some numbers we can figure out how many we have.

Excellent response, guys! Put me down for 3 tickets, possibly 4. Need to check with Senora Funkfoot to see if she can make it. (This is a big score for the home team if they are selling tickets for $20 - I think their usual price is $8.)

Sorry I can't offer anyone a ride - the car will be full and I think we will stay another night.

Kind of surprised we haven't heard from any of our NC based fans...

I really don't think I can miss my 3rd day of classes. Damn.

I'm already in Kitty Hawk that week, off work, and decided to make a Wednesday road trip. That's great that there's gonna be some other DC fans. I'm good for two tickets; is there going to be an official "party hotel" for those staying over who want to celebrate the win?

Word of advice: GPA doesn't matter unless you're gonna be a lawyer or a city sports commission president.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
