What do you guys make of the whole Rafinha wanting to go to the Olympics fiasco?
IŽll never forget, IŽll never forgive...His days in the club are numbered I believe.
Somebody might as well give us an offer right now because he have lost a lot of fan support that carried him thru his weak spells, from now on there will be thousands willing him to fail...

Maybe Hanover should try to get him :-D
Kinda stupid from the clubs to make such a fuss about it and stupid from Fifa to clarify it's position so very late.

Kinda stupid from the clubs to make such a fuss about it ...
Stupid? Please explain.
Rafinha gets paid by Schalke for playing there. With leaving to Paris
he clearly broke his contract and he betrayed the Schalke fans paying for
tickets to watch him play.
A normal employee propably gets fired for such a behavior and have huge problems to find a new job with such a reputation.
... and stupid from Fifa to clarify it's position so very late.
Absolute, but did FIFA really clarify it? Blatter only opened his mouth,
but it must be cleared if what Blatter said is conforming with FIFA statutes (Clubs only have to sent players to matches scheduled in the annual match calender and the Olympic matches are this time not in the calendar).
So it is still not clear, whether the clubs must sent the players or not
until a court like CAS Žll have made a decision.

yeah, these players have expensive contracts too. and we will have a big disadvantage for the first two weeks, i'm glad Naldo isn't going too. For them to refuse to consider the club's position is very unprofessional. At least with Diego, his father (and agent) seems crazy but Diego met with KATS and discussed. Now that he leaves, at least he's trying to make the fans and club less sauer.
Rafinha is really stupid for handling the situation like this though. I hope he gets whistles when he gets back.

I think you may be right. He does strike me as a player who would be calling for a move to a "bigger club" sooner or later anyways. Maybe you guys should cut your losses and get rid of him now before he causes more turmoil.

I think if a player wants to play in Olympia, he should be allowed to do so. Just because it is not in the Fifa Calendar doesn't mean the tourney is not important. If I were in the position of a manager, and a player would want to play, I'd warn him that he'd be in danger of losing his starting spot for a certain time because he would miss the season preparation and leave it at that. Kinda what Hecking told Zizzo (who wasn't even nominated).

isn't the Olympia supposed to be for amateur athletes anyway?? ... Since when do gymnastik (?) competitions include professionals from "Cirque du Soleil" who are much better and entertaining ?

Yup..I agree on that, he wasnŽt this cocky when he arrived from Brazil.
IŽm not above suspecting that him being hellbent of going to China was his way of trying to force us to sell him.

Agree.
I think that BL top clubs should be able to replace a player for the first 1-3 games. The Olympic Games are a unique chance for a young guy, nearby he's facing a lot of pressure regarding his national team future.

I would like to know how Rutten will handle Rafinha, when he's back. I rather rate him to not let Refinha play ever again anyway.

What do you all think Schalke will do with their midfield? I'm still trying to understand the Engelaar transfer.
There's Rakitic on the left, then they have Jones, Ernst and Engelaar as holding mids...but who will play on the right flank? Can Ernst do it? Or will they play a 4-3-2-1? Any ideas?

The X-mas tree formationa ala Milan? That would be interesting.
Didn't someone post that Engelaar is more than a DM and an actual box to box midfielder. If so, it might work.

He is. He is more of a Borowski than a de Jong type of Player. Regarding the fact, that Rutten prefers a "dutch" 4-3-3 with only one DM, Engelaar fits in pretty well.
Competition on the wings will be more problematic, as there are Sanchez, Streit, Lovenkrands, Altintop, Asamoah and possibly Rakitic or Ze Roberto fighting for just one place in the starting lineup alongside Farfan and Kuranyi.

Thats not the point. Replacing him for a couple of matches in the Bundesliga should not be a problem.
He will miss the CL-qualifiers...

Can our friends in Gelsenkirchen please advise me on what kind of impression Ollie Engelaar is making so far? Thanks!

Outstanding so far. He's already considered a leader, took control of the midfield from his first appearance on the pitch. Best debut at Schalke I can remember.
And as far as I noticed anyone is enthusiastic about him. He probably will increase jersey sells as well.
