I would easily accept all the arguments for the players already mentioned with imho Nesta being the best but how has Zanetti not been mentioned? Yes he's played a lot of midfield for Inter but is Argentina's best defender at either RB or LB and shows no signs of slowing down.

Looked like he was the only player who cared about the result tonight as well.

I thought Carragher did well against Inter today.

Zanetti is the only Inter player I have ever liked. :D

Nesta, of course. But if we're gonna make a list, Juan definitely deserves a shout.

Juan is a wonderful player and quite overlooked. He can score goals
too. We like him quite a bit at Roma. Quiet, efficient, goes about his
business and never causes trouble. It's just a shame he has been hit
by lots of injuries this season.
He'll never get mentioned because Domenech is such an ass, but our
main man Phillipe Mexes is an absolute tank in defense!

The fact that we've conceded only 17 goals this season, second only to your Man United, I think that at least one of our world class defenders deserves to be mentioned.
See below...
2. John Terry (England)
England's best defender: TERRY
The best defender IMO is either Terry
NO
How can Terry be the second best defender in the world or England's best defender when he is not even Chelsea's second best defender? I would easily take either Carvalho (although not in recent weeks) or Alex over him.

Actually, he can be the second best defender because he's the best in Chelsea in the opinions that you quoted. Only he can't be in yours if you think as sure Carvalho and Álex and over him.
It's really easy to understand when you discover any opinion isn't an absolute truth :D.

Truth be told I prefer Terry, mainly because he can organize a backline effectively. Watching Chelsea without him, Alex and Carvalho are a tad shaky at times in terms of organization but still decent although with Terry, it's just more organized for me.

Alex is not proven yet. Sure, he can hit free kicks and help the attack, but he is unproven in the EPL. Terry is proven.

Terry is a club symbol, Alex isn't. Terry may inspire more confidence, but I think Alex is technically better. If I had to pick one of them for my team, it would probably be Alex, unless my team was Chelsea.

Both Alex and Carvalho are better overall defenders and they have far less weaknesses. Were Terry excels is his leadership ability, which some often mistake for organisational ability, but leadership has nothing to do with the quality of a player and is intangible. Terry gets the headlines for his style of play (last ditch tackles/headers) and his aforementioned leadership but that is it. It's the same situation with Vidic versus Ferdinand at Man Utd. The former gets all of the headlines and is often mentioned in these threads by fans of rival clubs. The latter is often forgotten despite clearly being the superior player, being far more important to the play of his club (and indeed country) and his play enabling Vidic to play his natural game.

Peru FC, you're an articulate poster so could you explain to me why you personally think Terry is a better defender than Ferdinand?

For the sensation that he gives me about his performance, a greater solidity than gives me Ferdinand. Deepening in details would be inexact in my opinion, would be able to sound very detailed and expert, but I believe would be to intend too much useless logic when both are defenders of high level.

I do like how you complain about the nature of my posts while only bothering to offer aesthetics to defend your own. I'll let you in on a little secret... aesthetics are an irrelevance. It is a cop out, much like this 'opinion' nonsense that lots of people like to hide behind. If anyone disagrees with what I post then they are free to provide their reasoning and enter into a constructive discussion over the topic. If they make their case well enough then I will be the first to concede. What I will not stand is ignorance or either of the two cop outs I detailed above. So with that in mind the question posed by Twix remains unanswered. Over to you on that one. When you are done you can return to our discussion in regard to the ranking of Chelsea's defenders.

It's a good answer although seems me doesn't have much reason, too severe and I believe that you elevate a discussion as if was a competence with phrases as "to defend your" or "I will not stand is ignorance", besides trying to challenge asking a new answer from me because the last I gave isn't valid in your opinion; actually, would be a good opportunity to remember you again the phrase that I repeated twice already and I think is your big mistake in the discussion (and in other threads I can remember Teso Dos Bichos :D).
To express you as if you could offer me a permission to enter or to leave to the discussion according your criterion with the phrase "when you are done you can return to our discussion in regard.." is a little laughable, seems me has a relation with the defect that I mentioned you, the difficulty to understand that the own opinion hasn't be shared always.
To establish a constructive discussion, first I think you would have to fix that detail, but whatever, it's only my opinion, I'm not going to require you it to offer permission in new discussions, I would be a little lunatic :p.
