Jaime's injuries continue. This aspect of the trade is working out for us:
"MetroStars forward JAIME MORENO may miss the rest of the season. He said after Wednesday's game that he would consult a specialist and decide whether to have surgery on a herniated disk that has kept him out of several games. "It's an injury I have to take care of because I cannot run," he said."
This was in today's NY Times, at the end of the article on yesterday's Metros-Wizards game.

I'd say that Moreno's days in MLS are about done. If so, it's a sad ending to a once wonderful career. Gee, maybe Hudson kept the right Bolivian after all (I was convinced that he sould have ditched Etch and kept Jaime). Not that either have lit up the league this year, but at least Marco's been relatively healthy.

I have no ill will towards Moreno but glad not to see him on the field. I like to see Magee get minutes and Woly has been doing well.

Moreno may not be playing often, but when he does he's usually not a hinderance that slows down the offense. Etch usually is.

FACTS:
MLS SCORING LEADERS
PLAYER TEAM GP GOALS ASTS PTS
Marco Etcheverry DC 13 4 4 12
That puts MAE as the leading scorer for DCU and #12 for the MLS.
OPINION:
It is a given that MAE did not pay well today or last Saturday. He has had a few really good games this season though. No player has been outstanding for DCU, except Olsen, maybe. All other players, including Nick Rimando, have had ugly games here and there.
Let's have a little more respect for our team's leader
Regarding Moreno, I think most of us saw last year that Moreno's days were over due to lingering injuries. He is done. Unfortunately for MLS, he did not choose to retire last year with DCU.
take away the 3 PKs, and where on the list is he?? His better, and even good days are done. He is only left with flashes of competence - which you can't rely on to pull the strings. Love ya Marco, but time to move on...

Can we take away Ruiz's 4 or 5 PK goals as well then? I know Razov has put some away from the spot as well, and I'm sure there are others ahead of him who have coverted spot kicks too.

Does not slow down the offense? Maybe he is the black hole where the offense dissappears.

You cant be comparing these two. Ruiz is all fire and fight. Yes, he has alot of PKs this year. You can see what he creates on the field.
Someone tried to prove Wretch s worth with stats. Take away his PKs earned by others and you have his play to fall back on.
The reputation of MLS will improve when everyone on the field can actually run!!!!!

Not a negative. Not the same thing as scoring during play. Dont bring up stats showing he has five goals when 4 came as PKs.

Last time I checked, a PK was worth the same as a goal from the run of play.
Sorry to hear about Jaime. He was magic to watch when he was on his game.

Yes it is but who earned it? Is it the man fouled in the field of play or the man who takes the PK?

Good point - my vote goes for 50%/50%. Yes Marco has netted all 3 or 4 (don't recall which) of his PKs this year, which is important given Jamie's struggles last year. My main point was Marco is not a goal scoring threat that the other team needs to account for ala Twellman, Ruiz etc. Saying he leads the team in scoring and is 12th in the league makes him out to be a scorer, which at this point in his career he is not. Other than the outstanding shot last year into the upper 90 on Thornton (I believe) when else has Marco scored from a deadball? The team has not had a finisher since Lassiter's first run here. Jamie fell off the face of the earth begining in 2000 - and without looking I dont think anyone has had more than 10 or 12 goals the entire season since 99.

I have one for you - Marco retires at the end of the year - Moreno comes back to DCU (he still has his home here by the way) - Convey is gone - Adu comes to DCU -
how bout that for a striker lineup - two of the five Moreno - Adu - Curtis - Quaranta - Esky -
what would I do - trade Quaranta to Mutts - hire Moreno as a player-coach (assuming Etch fully retires to run his academy).
