Okay. In case somebody didn't notice, these are D.C. UNITED games. Please knock off the B.S. "OH" during the National Anthem. It's bad enough during O's games, but to me, it's absolutely unacceptable during the singing of the National Anthem during a D.C. United game.
Maybe my 23 years in the Marines made me especially sensitive to this issue. But frankly, I don't give a roasted Oriole for that bit.
Put your hand over your heart, and put a lid on the "OOHHss..."

Most of it seemed to be coming from the group of Colorado fans in the Mezzanaine behind the South goal. Usually there's not much of a problem with it.

So this is what? The 852nd thread bemoaning the o's during the anthem?
It's not gonna end. Might as well just find a way to cope.

The "Ohs" aren't the most irritating thing about the singing of the National Anthem. To me, the most frightening words in the English language are "And here with his/her rendition of the National Anthem is -----." If it has to be sung at all (thus raising a sporting event to the level of a patriotic festival), please sing it as it was written!

Last night I noticed that the fly-by rule over RFK was not in effect (and there was no fire the coach sign!).
Perhaps next game we can get the AF to fly-by and nuke the HO-HOs!

It's become a DC tradition and not just a Baltimoron move. Go to Caps games and it's the same. It's just one of those things, like the humidity, that if you live in DC you have to learn to live with.

I am not a big fan of National Anthems in sporting events, but I understand it is mandatory. Right?
Any type of distraction during the song is good for me, as long as it is not offensive or disrespectful to people.
Fly by F15s, "Oh", or nice graphics on the giant screen are good for people with my attention span... anthems tend to be long.

For the record I hate the "oh" thing. Not to come off like someone's grandmother (you kids) but it is disrespectful.

I've made enough comments on this issue. I was glad that on Saturday it seemed only a handful of ppl still do it. Unfortunately it seemed there were more yesterday.

I was the one who sang the anthem for last night's game. Of all the times I've done it, last night was the first time that I actually heard them do the "ohs" from the pitch so it must have been pretty loud.
I know they do it for every anthem, but it seem to me that most of it was coming from the fans up in the box seats behind the goal.
And Thomas, I completely agree with you that there is too much artistic flair given the anthem.
That said, I hope I didn't embellish it too much ;)

Tell you what covfc, if that is your real name, I won't paint everyone from Northern Virginia as a vapid, soulless suburbanite if you won't paint all Marylanders as dopes.

I hate this "tradition" almost as much as I hate the humidity.

Ms. T's B: I really liked your version, in part because you didn't take so many liberties with the notes! But I would really prefer that we (meaning the entire US of A) drop the pregame National Anthem as something close to being, er, sacrilegious.

Many Americans take this country for granted..so we get a forced feeding of patriotism before a game..if it helps people sit back and reflect on what a great country we live in then the better. It's only a minute and a half long.... if you don't like the Oh's don't do it, if you do then do it..America is a FREE country..do what makes you happy as long as it's within your rights.
