The Football Association are close to sealing an agreement for a friendly between England and the USA at Wembley on May 28.
It is understood that talks with US soccer chiefs have reached an advanced stage and that the match is highly likely to take place.

I'm sure it will be an almost 100% yanks abroad squad. The only callups I'd expect from MLS are Donovan and Altidore. And by that time Altidore may not be with the Red Bulls anymore. Maybe Twellman or Ching as a third forward if Bradley doesn't want to rely on Eddie Johnson.
Roster probably goes something like this: (prediction not wish list)
FW: Eddie Johnson, Clint Dempsey, Freddy Adu, Jozy Altidore
MF: Donovan, Feilhaber, Bradley, Eddie Lewis, Bobby Convey, Szetela/Nguyen/pick your young midfielder for late sub and experience here,
DF: Heath Pearce, Cherundolo, Onyewu, Bocanegra, Califf, DeMerit, Maybe Gibbs depending on recovery status,
GK: Howard, Friedel/Hahnemann pick one
Midfield may look a little thin, but once you pull Adu to LM or Dempsey to RM it'll serve for one match. Maybe they call in one of Edu/Clark, but I doubt there will be more than 3 mls guys at this one.

A friendly against the USA would inevitably lead to hopes that David Beckham would play for England in order to boost interest in the match in the States.
Methinks the press in the UK are drinking too much of their own kool-aid. I'm sure Becks presensce would not boost Wembley's butts-in-seats ratio for a match with that team from the back waters in the world of football.

Could be a nice opportunity for the relegated YAs to show their worth.

Yes he will.
Transfer window.
The English season will be over by then which means he'll be open for transfer again, right? I don't know these regulations by heart, so please correct me if I'm wrong.

It might for those in England who want to see Beckham earn his 100th cap, even if it is against the United States.

I have to give props to the US fed if they can pull this potentially fantastic 3 game/3 week test for USMNT. England at Wembley followed by Spain somewhere in Europe and then Argentina in New York a week later (ish). That's exactly the kind of test and exposure the program needs and a huge step up from the standard Guatemala, China and Denmark B team friendlies.
Of course the England and Argentina games are in negotiations and/or rumored and could all fall through...

transfer window is closed until July 1st for countries that play a fall to spring schedule. he could still move to a country that plays a summer schedule until the end of March, Russia being the only one that has clubs that could actually afford him.

I agree. US Soccer is doing a much better job putting together tougher friendlies this year. I really hope that this can continue in the run-up to the world cup, and can help us get stronger as a team.

In fairness to New England, which has a game on the 29th, I vote that we leave Twellman behind for this match.

I second that motion. He hasn't done very much for the national team anyway in terms of scoring, so he shouldn't be playing.
