England set for USA clash (http://ukpress.google.com/article/ALeqM5hsGVtHhaXuX_Dgpoar3eohzH3SXg)

The Football Association are close to sealing an agreement for a friendly between England and the USA at Wembley on May 28.
It is understood that talks with US soccer chiefs have reached an advanced stage and that the match is highly likely to take place.
England are also expected to play a friendly in the Caribbean against Trinidad and Tobago in early June.
A friendly against the USA would inevitably lead to hopes that David Beckham would play for England in order to boost interest in the match in the States.
If Beckham is not picked by England manager Fabio Capello for the friendly against France in Paris later this month then the May date would be the next opportunity for the Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder to win his 100th cap.
Capello said recently that Beckham would be part of his plans if he is match fit and playing well.
The France game takes place before the start of the Major League Soccer season so Beckham will only have had pre-season matches under his belt.
The last time England played the USA was in a friendly in Chicago in May 2005.
Kieran Richardson, now at Sunderland, scored both goals for England and Clint Dempsey, currently playing for Fulham, netted for the home side.

FWIW the article made an error, MLS would have been in season for almost 2 months by the time of this game, Beckham should be fully fit unless he gets hurt again.

There has still yet to be one credible mention from The FA that this match is going to happen. I'll believe it when I see it...

Agreed, but man would I love to see it happen though. I wonder how our boys would stack up against yours? On form I think the U.S. could give England a run for their money, but unfortunately I think England has too much quality for us to overcome.

I'd say 3-1 in favor of England should the match take place.

From the Daily Mail (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/sport/football.html?in_article_id=527393&in_page_id=1779)

Capello was joined yesterday by FA chief executive Brian Barwick and the governing body's new independent chairman, Lord Triesman.
While Barwick confirmed that England would meet the U.S. at Wembley in May before travelling to Trinidad and Tobago for a further friendly, ...

If it was confirmed, The FA, BBC, and Sky Sports would be all over it. Still have yet to hear from a credible source. This is the latest from The FA website. Fabio Capello, Lord Triesman and Brian Barwick meet up at Soho Square. Not one mention of this game. http://www.thefa.com/England/SeniorTeam/NewsAndFeatures/Postings/2008/03/FansForum_5Mar.htm
