View Full Version : WUSA Referee of the Year
Nominees are:
Sandra Hunt
Erich Simmons
Terry Vaughn
(They've finally figured out how to spell Erich's name. Who knows, maybe next year they'll figure out Claudiu Badea. ;) )

Anyway, interesting to see that of Massachusetts's three WUSA regulars, the non-FIFA, non-female one is the most highly regarded this year. That hopefully should bode well for him with more MLS assignments next year.

WUSA performance has very little to do with whether you will get MLS matches. In fact, MLS would prefer "their" referees to not do WUSA matches and instead concentrate on A league or MLS matches, as they feel WUSA matches do not provide adequate speed or difficulty to challenge their officials to improve.

WUSA certainly isn't the preferred avenue towards MLS, but it's certainly not a dead end, either.

MLS can prefer whatever they desire, but the fact is USSF has an obligation to put it's best referees on it's top division matches--both male and female. In many cases, that consists of two entirely separate corps (our male FIFAs don't work WUSA and our female FIFAs don't work MLS), but in some cases, like Simmons and Vaughn, you have a significant amount of crossover.

Glad to see Iowa standout Terry Vaughn get some recognition outside of Iowa. He did a great job of putting of a reffing seminar for several hundred Iowa referees.

Yeah Vaughan kisses butt pretty well also... SOme would say let hope Tambarino, Meredith, Machinck and Baraharmast do not stop sudden or the will need a surgery to remove Vaughans nose. I am just glad that Hunt did not win it.. I mean come on it is time for her to move on ... Tired of seein her on ever match all star, etc match.
lets see
