Real Betis will have their official presentation tonite at 2200 hrs at the Villamarin Stadium. They will be facing Boca Junior B squad, as Boca has kept all their starters except for one at home for this match. This match will give supporters a chance to see the new Betis acquisitions:

Ismael from Muricia
Contreras from Malaga
Tote from At. Madrid
Lembo from Nacional of Uruguay

Notably absent is the arrival of a true striker "9", something that Betis has been missing for the past 4 years. Rumors are abound that Joao Tomas AKA "el Patata" and Alfonso AKA "el cojo" may return to Betis as replacements for Dani who is injured and this is consistent with Loperas thought process of cheaper is better. Hopefully the fans will let Lopera know what they think of his strategy or lack of regarding strikers tonite with boos and white hankies!

Saludos y viva er beti manque lopera!

Looks like 2 of 3 Andalucian teams will be without a true # 9 as the season starts. Malaga is still working on bringing in a couple of players, most notably Dani (Barcelona), Martin Palermo (Villarreal) or Wanchope (Manchester City). They say that they will have a signing in place for the presentation match versus Valencia on the 23rd, but I seriously doubt that is going to happen.

For some reason, it isn't too hard to picture Alfonso back at Betis. He had some good years there, got a big head, thought he would be a big hit at Barcelona and completely underwhelmed there. Wasn't he on loan to Betis last year? I haven't heard much about him since then and have wondered.

There has been discussion as to the rumors about Wanchope coming to Betis this year. Alfonso was on loan but he has glass ankles and with every kick he receives he's on the injured list for __ weeks, (you insert the number). Problem is that Alfonso is one of Lopera's wonderboys and he can do no wrong in his eyes. The farther away he is from the Villamarin the better.
