As far as I remember, the Revs have not had a PK this year. And now that I just looked it up, it is confirmed. The Revs are the only team in MLS without a penalty attempt this year. LA and Chicago have five each, while San Jose and Columbus are close to us with 2 each. Only one team in MLS history has not had a PK through the entire year, KC in 2000 (coincidentally, the year they won MLS Cup). Two teams have had just one PK in a year (SJ in 99 and CBus in 01). The most anyone has had is 10 in one year. Can we go through the entire year without one? Highly possible considering the hacking that people get away with against Twellman.

As a matter of record, the Revs have had 4, 9, 6, 3, 4, 5, and 7 PKs each year, starting in 02 and going back each year.

The Revs have also given up 16 goals from the 61st minute on this year, that's a whopping 47% of their total goals allowed in the last third of the match. Contrast that with DC which has given up 3 (13%). Only Columbus is worse than we are at 56%.

Only one team has less wins than the Revs so far this season, that being of course Dallas.

We are second in the league in goals scored in the second half (0.95/game) while third in goals allowed in that time frame (1.00).

The Revs had better not allow SJ to score the first goal or lead at the half. The Quakes are 7-0 when scoring first, and 5-0 when leading at the half. To make matters worse, we are 0-6-4 when giving up the first goal. Once again, only Columbus is worse (0-8-1) in that category.

Only stats ... but some interesting stuff in there nonetheless.

While it's easy to say that, I happen to find it interesting what some of those numbers say. And I would venture to say that some of those stats (like the fact that the last place teams in the East are horrible at giving up goals in the last 30) is pretty meaninful. Stats don't give you a way of getting out of situations, but they can tend to bring those issues to light.

Stats are not a substitute for watching and paying attention to the game, unlike baseball where you can get a pretty good idea of a guy's day if you see he went 3 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Ask that guy who writes the stats column on MLS net about that.

If you weren't paying attention, you might say that the fact that we haven't received a PK this year means the refs are out to screw us. (They are, but that's another story:p) Twellman, for example, is the kind of player who will stay on his feet if he's fouled in the box, and even if he has a 1/3 chance at scoring, he will continue to chase after it if at all possible. Unlike some players coughRuizcough, who will flop all over the place whenever someone comes within 10 feet of them, Twellman is more likely to get an "advantage" call if it looks like he has a shot at it.

But stats alone will not show this.

I think that may be true of old Twellman, our new league star Taylor Twellman seems to try to sell calls way more than before (though not nearly as much as the flopping fish).

Like in that Nats game he played in, among other examples.

I have a feeling Cancela will earn us a PK before the season is over...

Here's an interesting stat:

So far this year:
Twellman: 12 goals, no pks
Ruiz: of 10 goals, 5 pks
Razov: of 10 goals, 5 pks (and 3 Kenny Arena goals)

And did you know that 92% of statistics are made up on the spot?
