It is big news. Mascherano is one of the standouts in our team and a world class talent. He also becomes our 2nd most expensive signing ever. I am guessing that the contract buys him out of his arrangement with Joorabchian also and as such has a more standard contractual situation.

And i still hear that this 18.6 covers 1.6 loan fee as well as 4 years salary. So if you go $50k x 44 weeks (all figures i made up) x 4 years you get 8.8 million.

So we get this guy for 8-10 million plus 50k a week? Its a steal. a highway robbery. You could sell him for 15 tommorow, no salary to speak of. We've made out like bandits on this one. Muchas Gracias West Ham.

is hicks paying attention to this? The rafalution is a money-spinner it just takes time for the assets to mature. Say carson for 10 mill when we paid 1.5 for example. no wonder he wants to sign every 15 year old in the world.

i clearly stated where i got the figures...i made them up :D But with a dose of reality. we pay kewell 70k a week, john terry makes 150k. 50k seems on the low end for a weekly salary, and i just assumed that the players are paid during the in season and not the close, i may be wrong about that. thats where i came up with 44 weeks.

so i am just trying to geusstimate what his salary is going to be and i think ive been conservative. The reports that the loan fee and salary are included in the figures have been all over the net for months and i saw it again today, to the effect that 1.6 was the 18 month loan fee and 17 mill fee plus salary for 4 years. Sorry i didnt save the link but this has been reported on for a long time, although nobody to my knowledge has waved a piece of paper proving it in the air.

So the point is, qualifying that if there is a smidgen of truth to the reports, we got a steal. If the figure does include salary this is cake. if the reports are untrue and salary is not included its still pretty much fair market value.

as to Carson of course we didnt sell him yet but most reports are aston villa value him at 8 and we at 10. we did pay 1.5 for him so thats pretty good appreciation no matter how you slice it.

Excellent news. This goes right up there with Torres as Rafa's best signing. We are going to have the best central midfield in Europe for the next 6 or 7 years.

Maybe this deserves its own thread but....who is our best player? It used to be an easy choice, but with Mascherano and Torres in the picture now, I'm not so sure. Masch and El Nino are at the same level for their position as Gerrard is for his.

Good point. It's tough to argue against Masch being among the 2-3 best in the world at his (albeit somewhat specialized) position.

Pepe would be right up there as well, I think.
