Training report posted on revolutionsoccer.net

Always looking for something new for my own training sessions, can anyone offer any additional details on the drills that are mentioned in the report:

"...an extended 6 v 6 plus 4 exercise designed to put players in situations where they needed to play the ball quickly under pressure. The next drill was a two-way, four line fast break exercise that reproduced game-like crossing and finishing situations. Finally, a short-field 10 v 10 game again put the players under pressure to play the ball quickly and cleanly."

I think the 6v6+4 means keepaway in a restricted space and the 4 stand one per side on the square they are playing in to offer give and go situations. The 4 play on the side of whoever has the ball and are restricted to playing along their line and one or two quick touches. A large square simulates conditions more like midfield, a smaller square is more like conditions at either goal where it becomes more crowded.

The 4 lanes must be on the sidelines. The inside lane on either side contains a defensive player and the outside contains an offensive player. They are put there so they can practice crossing and defending crosses. The drill may require that the ball be crossed from the outside before scoring. I've seen this one and tried it, but only once or twice.

The short-field 10 v. 10 takes out the midfield to focus more on finishing. A player needs to transition quickly and shoot. It's played with goals and goalies.

You can kind of tell what the coach is thinking by the drills. SN must not be satisfied with the play in the offensive third. That's my interpretation at least.

By the way, if I'm right in my interpretation it sounds reasonable since the Revs have been getting possession but not getting goals.
