Fellow Gooners,

Something dawned on me today. We’ve hit our worst patch of form and Skizz wants answers. From getting beat 5-1 by the Scum, to losing 4-0 at Man Yoo, to drawing with Burmingum, these have been our worst performances of the season. Let us ask what all these things have in common.

Is it the fact that we had 11 players on the pitch? No.

Is it the fact that the game lasted 90 minutes? No.

There is one glaringly obvious fact in all of this, and the fact is that if we had a decent captain, none of this would have happened. The captain should be the steering wheel of the car. The rudder of the ship. The frikkin front wheel of the tricycle. And William “Mr G” Gallas does not represent this at all.

When the pressure has been on he has folded. Crying on the pitch…damnit man, our captain should be fearless, not crying like a little girl! Kicking advert hoardings when a penalty is given…if he had only kicked Nani that hard, we would never have lost at Old Trafford that bad. When Darren Fletcher scores you know only one man is to blame, and that’s the man who scored an own goal and gave it to that Scottish turd burglar…William Gallas. But let's not go down the road of the fact that he loves Man Yoo so much, he scored own goals against them in both games this year.

He leads himself, not the team. His poor performances in all these games have made it our destiny to win nothing this season. That stupid fcking haircut doesn’t help matters – what sort of captain sets an example to young players by combining a Mohican AND hairgel? WTF? When players like Cesc and Ade need motivating, what is he doing? Sorting his hair out and shouting profanities. This is not the example a captain should set and is poor motivation.

He has no right to wear DB10’s shirt, and he should look at an amazing skipper like Rio Ferdinand or Gary Neville as an example of how to carry himself. King Rio never harasses referees, never gets away with fouling players in the box without having a penalty given, and, well, we all know the money paid was worth it.

Gallas’s poor leadership have no place in my beloved red and white shirt and he shouldn’t be captain. There I said it. I would go as far to say:

Henry captain >>> Gallas captain

oh, you said it alright. i think you've opened-up a huge can of worms...

you touched on all the matters except one thing, the gaffer. Obvioulsy Le Boss saw something in Big Will to promote him to captain, and Kolo / Gilberto to vice captains. Has the phrase "Arsene Knows" starting to lose it's effect?

Well only time will tell if Gallas will mature enough to be a good captain, but by lord, we haven't got light-years to waste.

It should have been Bert. Even though he's crap, his leadership skills are amazing.

...

Well he definately took the bull by the horns and steered us in the right direction at the begining of the season - when it was most crucial to not collapse as everyone was expecting.

Since our smashing run of form ended with cesc's injury in November, he has certainly become anonymous as far as leadership and performances go.

That said, there is no one else left to lead the team (as much heart as Toure has, I'm still not sure he can motivate, lead, and control the rest of the team), and Gilberto can't be captain from the bench.

lol...

his form has sucked the last month when Senderos hasnt been there with him... I will agree... to criticize him for his actions at St. Andrews... I agree, it was terrible...

but to say he hasnt been a good captain reeks of overreaction... this team was hanging on to 4th place the last two years... now they are 3 points clear at the top... they have scored more late goals than anyone and Gallas himself helped us claim points in a vital 3 game home stretch against United, Wigan, and Chelsea with vital goals... and the confidence that he has instilled in Senderos which makes him now look like a world beater is unquestionable...

has his form dipped without Gallas, yeah... but I think its because he is about to be 30 and has lost his pace... that has been evident the whole season I think...

but remember one thing... we have the thinnest squad in the Big 4... and we have had the most injuries of anyone in the Big 4 also... that has come back to haunt us...

Gallas has been a good captain... he's made mistakes... but to say he needs to lose the armband is crazy...

also, Ive read that it was a difficult week for him... he consoled Sagna and is probably the reason why he played last week for us... in spite of his brother's death... the Eduardo injury... Im not condoning his actions but you have to see his side also... and Gallas is very emotional, we have seen that the whole season, the good and bad... its been more good than bad tho

We can make it happen. He can go to the edge of the technical area.

Understandable, but last weeks events in no way makes up for months of mediocre performances and poor leadership. He has to go.

its only been a month tho?

im not sure if you are being serious... this past month is the first time he has been poor, and its been against United and Spurs... both times, no Senderos...

anyway, if you would like maybe we should give it back to Tony Adams in Pompey... captaincy from abroad

While his performances on the field have been poor, I think the mental side of things is a team wide issue that very few captains could fix.

We are trying to do a great deal, but with very little on hand. We have barely been able to even fill the bench since January. It became such a problem that Wenger had to throw the game against manutd. There was very little Gallas could do there, and I guess the frustration that has been building reached a high point after Eduardo's injury.

I still say that after that drama, let's see how he pulls the team together for the remaining games. We have been really trying to squeeze blood from a stone these last few weeks, but now that the whole team has had time to rest and reflect on what has happened, we might see all of them rediscover the fire we had at the begining of the season.

If we still trot out apathetically against Villa, Milan and play our way out of the remaining 2 trophies, then at the end of the season we are going to have a big issue to deal with.
There is no one to give the captaincy to, and we will have to look for another top class CB.

I think Gallas is fine--plenty of other problems resulting in our recent losses/draws.

However, if Flamini or Toure were to be made captain, I'd be pretty happy. Ade is quite the leader as well.

Its because Gallas only speaks French and broken English, but we have such diversity on the team so perhaps we need to turn to the man in the number 6...
The best players on our team either speak French, English, Spanish or something best described as grunting, and big Phil is the master of all those languages. He can get the message across!

Vote 1 BIG PHIL!

WTF?

Top of the league for the first time in years and Gallas is crap?

No wonder I never post here :D

You are right - he should look to Rio "Charles" Ferdinand as to how to conduct himself :D :D

Agreed, agreed, agreed.

First off, I hope that no one is suggesting that we change captains in mid-season. We're sitting on top of the table with 11 games to go. Changing now would be ludicrous.

The end of the season would be the time to consider a change. Still, I would only make that change IF Gallas' poor performances/breakdowns continue. But it is unfair to focus on a poor run of form without looking at th bigger picture. For most of the season Billy Gallas has been superb with the armband. Last season he was a malcontent and now he is the most vocal player on the pitch. You could even see evidence of his leadrship abilities in the crossbar challenge video -- clearly the team responds to him.

I don't think we need a new captain. What we need is for the entire team to buckle down and start producing results, starting Saturday against Villa.

While I think Gallas was completely out of order for what he did against Birmingham I think it was down to high emotions at the time so I can forgive him for that and I think very few people would know how they would have acted in his situation.

Gallas has been a very good captain this season and unfortunately he has hit a bit of a sticky patch which I don't think is coincidental to the bad patch the whole team is in.

Gallas's lack of class is a perfect match for "I never saw" it Wenger. Typical classless french losers.

I wish we had a classy Manager like SAF, and a captain with a good haircut like Gary Neville

Gilberto couldn't be our captain because he hardly plays and when he does, well....disasters follow. He's truly crap, now.

Flamini on the other hand...:)

TBH, I think Gallas is pretty far from the best captain for us, but on the other hand, he is the only senior-ish player that has the "fire" I personally like to see in a captain.

Last Saturday was just a God-awful abomination of a match. It was a lot to take emotionally. If Wenger was shook up, you can just imagine how our players felt. I can forgive Gallas' behavior a bit for this rough patch.

It is now time for our remaining opponents to pay for it!
Starting this Saturday.
