So, I'm looking for a new one....I basically use the computer only for web browsing (including streaming video), e-mail, word processing/spreadsheet, and watching movies. Don't do gaming or anything like that, but being able to watch TV on the computer would be nice. I'm looking to stay under about $800.
Right now I'm leaning towards a Dell Inspiron 1525...comes with a Pentium Dual Core T2330 processor, 1GB ram (is this enough to run Vista??). It also has the option to buy something called a "AVerTV Hybrid NanoExpress ATSC TV Tuner", I have no idea what this is but it sounds like it lets you watch TV on your computer, anyone know anything about this??
Anyone have any experience with the Inspiron, or have any other suggestions?? Thanks

If you go Intel, look for a T5000 series processor (T5200 or T5500 and others). There should be some in your price range. Have you looked at equivalent AMD boxes?
Vista will limp with 1 GB, particularly if your video uses "shared" memory. Go with 2 GB; it is worth it.

I have the Dell Inspiron 1520. Good machine. I agree. Go with 2GB. 1GB is fine, but 2GB is far better.

What they said. When going for RAM, it's always better to get more than what you think you may need. As I understand it, the more you have, the easier you can run multiple programs at once, without anything stalling or running choppy.

Check the refurbished laptops on dell, apple and other manufacturers.
You can get some pretty sweet deals for new equipment. Sometimes this refurbished stuff can be equipement that had a tiny scratch, or was sent back from a costumer that received the wrong computer. This equipment is usually very good as it has been screened rigorously twice for any problems.
It's been said that refurbished computers have less problems than the normal ones.
Regarding memory. 1Gb nowadays is bad. It's ok for spreadsheets and averagde usage of the internet. Get 2gb as Vista and Mac OSx are both very ram hungry.
