 What a game.
It could have ended up 8-6 there were that many chances. To go 2-0 up then have them peg us back to 2-2 with two quickfire goals, it looked as if it was going to be yet another of those days where Blackpool can't hold onto a lead this season. But to score FIVE against Charlton who have Premiership quality players is just awesome. Plus we now move ever closer to that magical target of 53 points for safety (well it is what Simon Grayson reckons we need) and so avoid relegation back to League One.
Now in 14th place on 42 points. Ten points off the play-offs and crucially eight points above the relegation places.
So many played well today. Kaspars Gorkss was immense. Stephen McPhee though was my MOM but virtually the whole team could have been MOM today.
And yet another virtual home stand sell out. And today an organised protest about the clubs refusal to build the South Stand. Flyers were handed out apparently (I didnt see any though). And something like 500+ fans stayed behind after the game and made their views known very loudly, once the players had left the pitch.
And a special word for the support today which was as loud as I can recall for many a year. This is from a Charlton fan posting after the game on one of their message boards -
"remember watching the play off final, and they bossed it that day too. The best part was their crowd. You could tell that the people cheering them on were standing there for their fathers and their father's fathers.
There is a sense of history about the club, its supporters, and the way that they play the game.
The same was true today, I imagine.
On the day they are unstoppable, no disrespect to fine players, managers and supporters of Charlton."
Praise indeed from opposotion fans. What has been apparent all season in this league is that whilst we have one of the lowest average home attendances (partly due of course to the clubs refusal to build the South Stand and so allow more home fans to get in) a lot of opposition fans have praised the Tangerine Army for being one of the loudest.
Today is a good day to be a 'Pool fan.
