Wow, just wow. I don't think I've ever seen a highlight reel with such violence and no red cards. This is just deplorable sportsmanship and at least poor to very one-sided officiating.

Would have to say I would a have handed a lot more yellows and a few more reds in that match. I have no idea what that ref could have been thinking on some of those challenges.

What a nightmare.

It is obvious that this referee has been training with the MLS referee trainers. Each of the players in question were "stars" in their country and could not be sent off or it would ruin the enjoyment of the spectators. "shrug"

Not to mention the AR totally out of position and missing the offside call, that should have been a goal.At the least, he was a step if not even on the pass.

I think even two big running strides onside.

How many players would ya'll have sent off? At least 2, but I only looked through once.

Chinese team play extremely dirty!
Also, Japanese players are such cowards.:D If you see the clip at the end, I was laughing at the Japanese guy reacting when a Chinese player pushed him.

Wow. Really bad stuff. Even if the reel was edited to only show Chinese fouls, there are several bad ones, and a total lack of game control. Plus the goal that was called back was perfectly fine--there was a Japanese player in a clear offside position, but twenty yards or more from the play. The shooter was clearly onside when the ball was played to him, wasn't even close.

I would have sent the keeper off for the "kung fu" challenge, although in that case, the ref might have had a bad angle. Keeper goes up just as the ball is played around him, no foul there, and wouldn't have been if they ran straight into each other. But as the Japanese player goes around the airborne keeper, he kicks out with his right leg, and smacks the attacker to the ground.

While I see somethings that clearly look pretty bad on the face of things I always hope to see the entire game prior to making any statement. Clearly this clip was edited from a Blue fan.

Without seeing the whole flow of the game its tough to have a good perspective. And I know that I have had games in which I just did not feel I was fully in control and struggled to get my handle on the flow of the players.

And when dealing with a grudge match...

And not always will cards deescalate...

Sigh, can you tell I see the future of a HS game next month in which I am working to settle things down during warmups?

Agreed. Not sure how the ref could have seen that from any reasonable position, but it was clearly deliberate and worthy of a sending off.

I'm reminded on this issue of home plate umpire Tim McClellan's comments on whether or not he made the right call as to whether Matt Holliday touched home in the Rockies' play-in game. He did not comment as to whether the call was correct, but said something to the effect of, "I looked to see whether I could possibly have been in a better position to make the call, and I don't think I could have." Could the referee had been in a better position to make this call? He would have had to be right on top of the players - I don't think it's reasonable, given concerns about being able to respond to where the play went.

So many of the other fouls, though, were just rough. The yellows seemed light.

OTOH, especially toward the end of the game, Blue seemed to be going down awfully easy. Not sure you can blame them, though, with all the brutality being dished out by Red.

Rough game - I'm glad I wasn't the CR.

Tough for the CR to have good position on that play. It was a full speed fast break from midfield, and even with the best anticipation it would be hard to get the angle needed for that view. The Ar should have had it, although he likely was trailing as well. Tough to keep up on that play.

Wow is about right...did I read above correctly where I caught the implication that there were ZERO red cards issued? To answer Nesto's question, I saw three plays where I would definitely have gone to the back pocket based on spikes up and that's not even counting that crazy kick from the keeper which I really just didn't see very well on the replay but looked like it could have been pretty ugly too.

As for that called back goal...who here hates it when the last guy on the offside trap is late or slow pulling upfield and leaves the attacker one-on-one with the keeper? And then tries to make everyone think the AR screwed up because the flag stayed down? That's what I think I saw happen except that the flag went up. Poor video quality, though so I could be wrong, too.

Talk about a grudge match, though!!! Every time those countries meet, I can imagine them re-fighting World War II. Can't say I wouldn't carry a grudge about some of that stuff myself if my country or family were done like that either, to be fair. But damn there were some REALLY hard fouls. I saw a lotta Red team spikes in those videos....
