Anyone know of any good semicompetitive leagues in and around dc? I know there are a ton but want suggestions if anyone has experience of getting connected into a team. Thanks!

Where to begin? I really only know the more "mainstream" leagues, but there are tons of smaller, more specifically ethnic leagues even on top of this.

The Washington International Soccer League has perhaps the most teams, spanning a very competitive Premier League, two first divisions (Saturday and Sunday) and some relatively competitive 2nd divisions (two Saturday and two Sunday). They play games all over, from the Soccerplex in Germantown, to the fields down on the Mall to Ft. Belvoir off Route 1 in VA. Their website is www.wisl.org.

The Northern Virginia Soccer League is also reasonably competitive at the top level and plays Sundays. They have 3 divisions and a strong Masters division (over 32). Games are all over Arlington and Fairfax Counties, with some perhaps in Loudon. They can be reached through www.hotstat.com, which handles their schedules and standings. I play on a team in this league that joined last year after leaving WISL and has moved up to Division 1 (middle division).

There is a league in the Fairfax/Reston area called the Capitol Soccer League, which isn't bad. I don't have contact info there.

In MD, the Montgomery County Department of Recreation runs a league that has 4 divisions, but no promotion/relegation, meaning the competition levels, even within a division, can vary. I also play on a team in that league that is in Division 1. I know that others on this board also play for the SEFC team in that division. I'd say it's a pretty big step down from the top levels of the WISL or NVSL to the top level of MCRD. This one plays Sundays. More info can be obtained through their website at http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov

There are other leagues further out in Maryland such as the Mid-Maryland League.

And there are several coed leagues which play weekends or weeknights. Montgomery County Recreation Department plays theirs on Saturdays. And there is a Capital Coed Soccer League that is pretty competitive which plays on Sundays.
