After reading purpleronnie's thread about British "indie" music--all of which was toothless, polished, and boring and most of which was also full of affectation--I happened to come across this clip of a Jesus Lizard performance ("Nub") from 1994.

Midway through the song, some fan hops on stage and starts ********ing with Duane Denison's gear. Denison promptly whips the guy's ass. The rest of the band doesn't miss a beat. The song is great: it contains menace, which I find almost entirely lacking in the so-called indie music of the last few years. The performance is also great. I was lucky to have seen them once back in the day, and they completely slayed my face.
I've been spending the entire morning listening to Liar, which I've had for a while, and Goat and Head/Pure, which I only recently acquired. All are terrific, but Goat is a masterpiece.
There's not really a point to this thread, other than that The Jesus Lizard ruled. When I survey the landscape of indie rock, I see a lot of bearded bands playing 10-generation Pavement knockoffs, and I wonder where in the hell all of the menace is.
